The author discusses three drawings which he has identified as works by Saturnin Swierzynski (1820-1885), a Cracow painter and draughtsman who is still little known and underestimated. They were commissioned by Konstanty Hoszowski, a Senator of Galicia, Secretary of the Commonwealth of Cracow, a councillor of the City of Cracow, President of the Superior Court of Galicia, a post he held for life, for many years President of the Cracow Charitable Society, and the author of treatises on history, law, and social sciences. As can be inferred from the artist's notes, he executed for Hoszowski some drawings from which lithographs were later made to illustrate the latter's publications. For one of his books, entitled 'Zywot Andrzeja Zawiszy Trzebickiego biskupa krakowskiego i ksiecia siewierskiego' (The Life of Andrzej Zawisza Trzebicki, Bishop of Cracow and Duke of Siewierz) (Krakow 1861), the artist drew copies of the portrait of Bishop Andrzej Trzebicki in the cloisters of the Franciscan monastery in Cracow (August or September 1858) and of the picture of the Virgin and Child in the chapel of the Cracow Charitable Society (May or June 1859). Lithographs from these drawings were made by Jedrzej Brydak. In addition, a lithograph after a drawing by Swierzynski, depicting the Blessed Prandota of Bialaczów, opened Hoszowski's article, 'O zaslugach blogoslawionego Prandoty, biskupa krakowskiego, w dziedzinie dobroczynnosci polozonych' (On the Services Rendered by the Blessed Prandota, Bishop of Cracow, in the Field of Charity), published in 'Pamietnik Towarzystwa Dobroczynnosci Krakowskiego' (Krakow 1868). Furthermore, it is known from the artist's own records that in 1863 he made another drawing for Hoszowski, but as the record is very enigmatic, this work has not so far been identified.
