The author analyses The Old Axolotl, a short novel by Jacek Dukaj. The writer creates a cosmic catastrophe in order to show contemporary ways and concepts to create one’s self and methods of defining humanity. Men no longer have physical bodies, they exist in machines and have to create their own new civilization. This situation enables Dukaj to diagnose our beliefs, images and ideas of what is human or non-human. However, he is not so optimistic. Dukaj’s novel is full of ambivalence when it comes to Reason and technology, which would establish the new post-human world.

Autor analizuje mini powieść Jacka Dukaja Starość aksolotla. Pisarz inscenizuje apokalipsę, by pokazać współczesne sposoby konceptualizowania tożsamości, a szerzej definiowania człowieczeństwa.
