W niniejszym opracowaniu dokonano oceny możliwości i kierunków rozwoju społeczno-gospodarczego miasta Olsztyna. Wskazano na podstawowe czynniki i uwarunkowania tego rozwoju, jak również zachodzące zmiany demograficzne i społeczne, w tym zwłaszcza edukacyjne i kulturowe. Badania i analizy dokonano w oparciu o dane Urzędu Statystycznego w Olsztynie, Strategię Rozwoju Olsztyna na lata 2006–2020 oraz Strategię Rozwoju Społeczno--Gospodarczego Województwa Warmińsko-Mazurskiego do roku 2020. We wnioskach stwierdzono, że stolica województwa warmińsko-mazurskiego jest miastem atrakcyjnym. Miasto wykazuje znaczny wzrost potencjału społeczno-gospodarczego i kulturowego oraz ma duży potencjał rozwojowy w odniesieniu do turystyki i rekreacji, jednocześnie stanowi podstawową siłę napędową rozwoju społeczno-gospodarczego regionu.

This study assesses the possibilities and directions of the socioeconomic development of the city of Olsztyn. It discloses the crucial determinants and conditions of aforesaid development, as well as prospective demographic and social changes, in particular educational and cultural issues. Research and analysis are based on data provided by the Statistical Office in Olsztyn, Olsztyn Development Strategy for the years 2006–2020 and the Strategy for Social and Economic Development of Warmia – Mazury until 2020. As the investigation results clearly prove, the capital of the Warmio-Masurian voivodship is an attractive urban site. The city shows a significant growth potential in the socioeconomic and cultural fields as well as in tourism and recreation, and is the primary driving force of socioeconomic development for the whole area.
