The use of location based data analysing tools is an important part of geomarketing strategies among entrepreneurs. One of the key elements of interest is social media data shared by the users. This data is analysed both for its content and its location information, the results help to identify trends represented in the researched regions. In order to verify the possibilities of analysing and processing of geotagged social media data, application programming interfaces (APIs) of social networks were examined for their ability to generate reports from the collected data. The first results of using the system have indicated the possibility of collecting and analysing information generated by Twitter users in real time. Trends and geographical distribution in time can be observed. Further research showed that comparing results and further processing was possible.

The main scope of this article is exploring the role of appearance and social practices concerning its creation in the process of peer cyberbullying among Polish young adults (N=329). Online body autopresentation has been found an important factor moderating the process of online aggression. The dissemination of beliefs was also examined – assessment of own attractiveness, the apprehension of the appearance assessment by others and the scale of activities focused on editing and improving the appearance depicted in the pictures posted on social websites. The differences in these areas were examined between people with disabilities or those who have injuries or specific health conditions that affect their appearance and other young people. The results have revealed that particular research and intervention focus should be put on young people having a condition or injury affecting appearance and/or having a disability or serious health problems as this group has been found more prone to be victimized (regarding traditional bullying as well as cyberbullying).

W warunkach dużej dynamiki zmian w otoczeniu i wewnątrz organizacji konieczne jest właściwe prowadzenie polityki personalnej. Dobór, rozwój kadr, motywowanie i wykształcenie w pracownikach takich cech, jak kreatywność, otwartość i elastyczność, pozwalają organizacji sprawnie funkcjonować i osiągać zamierzone cele. Media społecznościowe, takie jak Facebook, MySpace, Twittter, LinkedIn itd., zmieniają dzisiaj sposób rekrutowania pracowników i otwierają przed rekruterami zupełnie nowe możliwości.

Political and public debates unfolding online provide various spaces for interaction between political actors, citizens and media outlets. This environment can be employed for diverse agendas, frames and biases, especially within populist narratives. This work examines the discourse of Central and Eastern European right-wing populists from Austria, Germany, Hungary and Poland (2015-2021). To identify discursive patterns within public Facebook posts (n=192,057) by 31 party, movement and partisan news media pages, created by API interrogation, right-wing discourse is analyzed through semi-automated quantitative content analysis based on text mining, in conjunction with qualitative content analysis of messages that generated the highest engagement-rates (n=80). Key findings indicate both national and international narrative patterns with a focus on political, social and ethnic opponents, by incorporating Engesser et al.’s (2017) core elements of right-wing populist discourse within Master Populist Frame building (Heinisch & Mazzoleni, 2017), thus marking the contemporary agenda of European right-wing discourse.

Aim/purpose – The aim of this paper is to analyze and compare the development of voivodships in terms of social media usag e in enterprises in the period from 2014 to 2017. The aim has been formulated because of the increasingly greater significance of social media in post-industrial enterprises. Design/methodology/approach – The two types of linear ordering methods were ap- plied, i.e., the method based on the pattern of development (Hellwig’s method) and the methods that were non-based on the pattern of development were used. Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient ρ and Kendall’s rank correlation coefficient τ were used to verify correlations between various rankings. Analysis of the dynamics, spatial visualizations, box plots and polar plots were used in relation to the aggregated measures. In conducted analyses, data from the period 2014-2017 (pr ovided by the Central Statistical Office of Poland) was used. The each year for the period from 2014 to 2017 was analyzed. Findings – In all rankings (with the use of all ty pes of applied measures and also in all analyzed years) the 1st place was taken by Masovian Voivodship. The distance between Masovian Voivodship and other voivodships was still significant during the analyzed period. The created rankings were similar in terms of statistical significance of computed correlation coefficients in all analyses. The research study results do not indicate a clear dispersion of the level of the analyzed phenomenon between eastern and western voivodships. It was also found that the highe r is ICT usage by enterprises in a voivod- ship, the more common is social media usage by them. There is a clear overall tendency of increase in the phenomenon dur ing the period from 2014 to 2017. Research implications/limitations – The main implications is that the identified differ- ences between areas can be a basis to assess the social media usage as a specific factor of business development. The research result s indicate voivodships that should employ social media more and the highest placed voivo dships as well. The results can be regard as support for the policy of digitization and building a knowledge-based economy. Originality/value/contribution – The originality of this pa per is based on: the created rankings of voivodships in terms of social media usage in enterprises in the period 2014- 2017, the comparison and assessment of voivodsh ips in this context, and the identifica- tion of change of the social media usage in individual voivodships and in Poland as a whole.

Social media provide considerable opportunities for quick and inexpensive publication of information, and consequently also for scholarly gleanings. This tool furnishes the possibility of communication between scholars themselves and of the popularisation of one’s accomplishments, results of research and instances of success of scholarly institutions. Scholars more and more frequently and eagerly embrace social media, not only for promotional purposes. Internet profiles or blogs are established by eminent scientists as well as by local and global institutions, such as NASA. The article discusses selected profiles devoted to scholarship (ones the present e.g. the most recent scholarly gleanings, ones that commemorate historical events etc.) and websites of scholarly institutions. Their accounts on two major social media portals were evaluated: Instagram (NASA, Brooklyn Museum, sciencedisplay Knowledge Is Power) and Facebook (Science News Magazine, American Museum of Natural History, British Museum), in order to describe the way in which popularity may be utilised in a positive way, and concomitantly to publicise frequently noncommercial activities of scholarly nature.

The refugee crisis and the rising number of asylum seekers is one of the primary concerns of the EU. Political discussions reflect humanitarian, social and economic implications of the constant influx of new asylum seekers coming mainly from Syria. Within the political sphere in the V4 countries it is possible to observe negative attitudes. In this context, it is very important to emphasize that we are living in a democratic society, where media represent the role of democracy guardians. On the other hand, social media offer space for expression to the general public opinions, and their potential is also fully exploited by political leaders. The potential of social media must be perceived also against the backdrop of risks stemming mainly from disinformation and manipulative tendencies. In order to identify and clarify the presence of manipulative techniques in the communication of political and social groups to the attitudes of Generation Y in the sphere of migrant tolerance we present some introductory findings under the scope of project VEGA 1/0192/18.

Background and Purpose: The term ‘social media’ refers to a cluster of applications and online services that support human interaction and content broadcasting and sharing. Current services are isolated islands or ‘walled gardens’, and are based on a business model that is highly exploitative of individuals and their data. Design/Methodology/Approach: Surveys of the refereed literature have been undertaken on several occasions during the period 2012-13. Reviews were conducted of social media services that are reasonably described as ‘consumer-oriented’. Media reports on those services were uncovered. The available information was then subjected to analysis, including reflection based on prior research conducted by the author. Results: Required characteristics of consumer-oriented social media, and barriers to emergence and adoption of such services were identified. That provided a basis for proposing means to overcome those barriers. Key impediments to the emergence of such services were identified, and means of overcoming the impediments outlined. Conclusion: An alternative, consumer-oriented approach is feasible, involving open architecture, inter-operability and portability features, fair terms and privacy-sensitivity.

In the centre of our interest stand the manifestations of adolescent self-creating endeavours in the virtual space of the social media portal called Facebook. Frequent self-photography (selfie) making, as a pronounced cultural feature of contemporary youth, and regular activity on Facebook handled as tightly connected factors; we propose that youngsters, bearing these attributes, have a different self-esteem than those adolescents who rarely or never take any photographs of themselves. In the first, quantitative part of our research the participants (N=80) filled in the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and a questionnaire containing questions in connection with Facebook-usage (compiled by us). In the qualitative part of the research the participants took part in a half-structured interview, containing questions in connection with selfie-making (also compiled by us). Our hypothesis was not proven by the statistical analysis, no connection could be testified between frequent selfie-making and low self-esteem. Keywords: selfie, self-esteem, adolescence, social media, Facebook

Digitization and technology interference influence the living conditions of the young generation and their perception of privacy and private identity. Social media is changing the way internet users obtain and share information and digital narratives about family members. One of the groups most affected by such actions is minors. People are not sufficiently aware of the consequences of their actions in this regard, as these might have a negative impact on the emotional, social and intellectual development of a child or young person as they do not have any control over the information being published online. The problem is even more serious as the minimum age limit for granting consent to the processing of personal data has not been set (neither the current legal system nor the GDPR has laid down such an age limit). The current legislation de facto allows legal guardians to deny minors entrusted to their care the right to privacy, thus giving rise to digital abduction, personal identity theft or cyberbullying of minors who should be enjoying legal protection against any form of harm. The paper analyses the content and type of information social media users share, in particular sensitive data, using qualitative scientific methods. In this regard, the paper researches the possibilities of implementing the existing legal framework with a view to propose legal and social mechanisms to increase the protection of a specific category of data subjects in the context of the „need to know“ principle.

Facebook discussion threads are often associated with a controversial exchange of views. This study deals with these threads. In the theoretical part the author aims to look at Facebook as a separate internet medium that requires active interaction from its users. He deals with Marshall McLuhan’s and Erving Goffman’s theories and aims to work with the evolution of the social network. In the practical part the author focuses on Facebook discussion threads themselves and on their participants. To cope with his research problem, he employs two qualitative methods, discourse analysis of Facebook’s discussion threads and semi-structured interviews with debaters. He tries to distinguish whether there are any interaction patterns, discourse terminology used by debaters within discussion threads and he also aims to describe Facebook discussion threads from an overall perspective. In semi-structured interviews with Facebook debaters the main goal is to reveal the motivation to present their opinion online and reflection of the social platform itself.

Malaysia is a nation rich in culture and heritage because of its multi-racial society that consists of different ethnic groups. Part of this rich cultural heritage are the various traditional children’s games that have existed for a long time, such as Congkak (filling the wooden board), Batu Seremban (tossing the stones), Sepak Takraw (kicking the rattan ball), Gasing (spinning top), Wau (kite flying) and many more. However, with the development of digital technologies and the impact of globalization, traditional children’s games that were once very popular in our society are now slowing fading away. This campaign is carried out using social media, with the aim to explore the values of Malaysian traditional children’s games and to reintroduce these games to children and the general public. The project consisted of a traditional children’s games workshop and an online campaign using Facebook, which targeted a larger audience The findings of this project revealed that traditional children’s games are beneficial to a child’s growth and development, cultural values and teaching practices. Therefore, it is important for the present generation to preserve, promote and relive Malaysian traditional children’s games and to pass them on to the next generation.
