Idea szkoły środowiskowej jest jedną z ciekawszych inicjatyw pierwszego okresu Nowego Wychowania. Koncepcję Stanisława Szackiego, miłośnika Lwa Tołstoja, organizatora ośrodka pracy oświatowej wśród biednych mieszkańców jednej z zaniedbanych dzielnic Moskwy, należy umieścić wśród innych najwybitniejszych koncepcji tamtego okresu. Wiele propozycji Stanisława Szackiego jest aktualnych do dziś. We współczesnej Polsce, w której wiele zadań związanych z edukacją zostało przekazanych gminom i środowiskom lokalnym, myśli tego pedagoga mogą wydawać się trafne i przydatne.

The idea of the school environment is one of the most interesting first initiatives of the New Education. The concept of Stanislaus Szacki, an enthusiast of Leo Tolstoy, the organizer of the center of educational work among the poor residents of one of the neglected areas of Moscow, should place, among the other most prominent concepts, that period. Many of his proposals are true today. In modern Poland, where many of the tasks related to education were transferred to municipalities and local communities, the thoughts of the educator may seem relevant and useful.
