W niniejszym artykule zaprezentowana została książka autorstwa wiedeńskiej nauczycielki Susanne Wiesinger, która dotyczy sytuacji w austriackich (wiedeńskich) szkołach. W centrum jej uwagi znalazły się muzułmańskie dzieci i młodzież. 40% wiedeńskich uczniów to muzułmanie. W dzielnicach, w których dominuje społeczność islamska, liczba ta nierzadko wzrasta dwukrotnie. Opracowanie Wiesinger spotkało się z zainteresowaniem opinii publicznej, czego potwierdzeniem jest wysoki, jak na austriackie warunki, nakład – 28 tys. egzemplarzy. Wiele osób chwaliło autorkę za cywilną odwagę mówienia o ujawniających się problemach, inni krytykowali ją, wskazując na niesprawiedliwe uogólnienia, których dokonuje. Śledząc argumentację Wiesinger należy wskazać, że jest ona nierówna, ujawniają się niekonsekwencje oraz „stempel” socjaldemokratycznego obozu, z którym autorka się identyfikuje.

This article presents a book by the Viennese teacher Susanne Wiesinger, which deals with the situation in Austrian (Viennese) schools. Attention is focused on Muslim children and youth. Forty per cent of Viennese students are Muslims. In neighbourhoods dominated by the Islamic community, this number is often doubled. Wiesinger’s study met with interest from the public, as the high, for Austrian conditions, circulation of 28,000 copies confirms. Many people praised the author for her courage in talking about emerging problems, while others criticized her, pointing to the unjust generalizations she made. In tracing Wiesinger’s argument, it should be pointed out that it is uneven, that there are inconsistencies and that the book bears the “stamp” of the social-democratic camp with which the author identifies herself.
