Analysing of the personal names from the 16th century tax registers, the author tries to answer some questions concerning the development of the anthroponymical system in the Czech society of the given period. In contrast to historical studies, the tax registers are presented as important not only from social and economic points of view, but especially as a source important from onomasiological and onomastic standpoint.

The study offers a review of the urban development of the settlement below Bratislava Castle from the mid-12th century. It analyses the oldest tax register for the town of Bratislava (1378), which includes only taxpayers from the suburbs and provides data about the social, employment and topographic structure of the surroundings of the town. On the basis of comparison with the tax registers from 1434 and 1453/4, the study shows the development of the inner town and suburbs.
