The article discloses the impact of technological progress on economic growth in Japan and China, which are distinguished by the high level of development of technologies and innovation activity. The development of science and technology in these countries remains an important factor of further strengthening of economic potential, precondition of successful social task solution. In this research total factor productivity (TFP) of Japan and China is also calculated, contribution of technological progress for economic growth of these countries is analysed. The Japanese and Chinese governments contributed significantly to improvement of technical capacity of their countries owing to adoption of open policy and implementation of a number of economic reforms.

The article is about new views on the theory of “long waves” and especially from the point of view of technological progress importance of which is stressed. It developed a new conception of waves of technological innovations in a modern society (from 1600 AD). The last- 5th wave (based on a progress in informatics and telecommunications) is just coming to an end. Today economic crisis must be seen also as the crisis of the end of the cycle of innovations. It could be overcome by a new technological revolution (post-informational technological revolution) which could start about 2015.

In this article the state of the scientific system of Ukraine is analyzed as per the particular effectiveness indicators. The factors that affect the degree of research results implementation in the business system practice are defined and substantiated. The set of actions aimed at strengthening the state's role in provision of the science development is proposed.

The aim of this paper is to analyse the development of innovations and research as the factors of building knowledge-based economy in the Slovak Republic. The phenomena of the technological progress are examined on data on exports in the EU countries and in the SR according to technological demands, the structure of innovating enterprises share by technological level, mutual dependence between innovations (measured by number of EPO patents) and economic performance (measured by means of GDP/capita). In this connection also the contributions of total factor productivity, capital, labour force, foreign direct investment and GERD on the GDP growth rate are analysed. The author identifies the basic deficiencies in research and innovations in Slovakia together with a proposal on how to overcome them.
