The article examines the premises which should be adopted in the process of constructing a system for evaluating management competencies. It presents the components of that system, including the goal, the subject, a model, criteria and evaluation methods. In this case, the system of management competencies evaluation has been treated as a system of intentionally well-suited, internally organised and coherent elements organisational strategy sees as appropriate. These elements enable an entity to arrange and formalise all steps which together culminate in a value judgment concerning management competencies while also ensuring the invariability of the evaluation process. They also contribute to the effective management of manager competencies in the enterprise. The application of this system leads to the identification of gaps in competencies which may hinder task realisation and prevent the enterprise from developing. They may also slow down the introduction of innovation and become a barrier to improving a company’s competitive position.
