The first part of this paper is an analysis of Józef Tischner's doctoral thesis, entitled 'The Transcendental Ego in the Philosophy by Edmund Husserl' (1962). The authoress pays attention to the differences between Husserl's and Tischner's concepts of the ego, to the latter's polemic with Sartre's description of the phenomenological experience of the ego, and finally, to the methodological strategy of the Polish philosopher in which he uses Roman Ingarden's ontology and ethics. In the second part she tries to show Tischner's way to Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutics of symbol, metaphor, and Biblical parable, treated as an attempt to avoid the consequences of analytical arguments against transcendental phenomenology.
