A comparison of smoking status measurement through individual and proxy interviews was conducted. Sensitivity, specificity, predictive value of positive / negative results and Cohen’s coefficient of agreement Kappa were calculated. It is recommended to survey the adult who is ready to answer the questions about the whole family. This way the study sample may be increased significantly at low marginal cost, and proxy survey allows estimating population smoking prevalence with the use of statistical corrections.
