Problems connected with the realization of the rights of the so called Polish group in Germany, as formulated in the treaty on good neighbors and friendly cooperation of 17 June 1991, have been the object of interest for the Polish society, media and politicians, including members of the German Federal Diet (Bundestag) and the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. The ongoing discussions are mostly dominated by issues of asymmetry and disparity of the treaty provisions regarding the status of Poles in Germany and Germans in Poland, as well as lack of full implementation of those provisions by the German side. The article highlights issues that have been brought up in the parliaments of Poland and the FRG in the context of the Polish community in Germany. The author presents selected relevant parliamentary inquiries and interpellations, and the answers obtained, as well as the stand of other representatives of the governments of both countries (contained e.g. in their exposé). The author concludes that talks within the so called Polish-German quadrangle with the participation of the Polish and German governments and representatives of the German minority in Poland and the Poles in Germany should contribute to a fuller realization of the rights of the latter.
