The Necpaly family ancestors had acquired their first possession in the County of Turiec (village of Necpaly) in 1287. However, their biggest property acquisition was connected with Ladislav of Necpaly. This leading person of the family in the 15th century had received possession of Žabokreky, Jahodníky, Horné Vrútky and Blatnica castle estates in the form of deposit and donations. After the extinction of the family male line the ownership relations in its Turiec estates became very complicated. Blatnica and Necpaly estates originally formed a single property entity until the middle of the 15th century. The financial problems of Blažej of Necpaly (nephew of Ladislav) after a tragic event in the family when his closest relatives ended up in Turkish captivity and the subsequent extinction of this family in the male line were the causes of the fact that at the end of the Middle Ages Blatnica dominion was divided between several owners: the Korom family, the Justs, the Záblatský, the Balaša or the Zápoľský and the Erdődy families. As for the inheritance of the Necpaly family, the villages of Necpaly, Žabokreky and Horné Vrútky in Turiec County remained mostly in the hands of the Justs who lived there and used the name of the village of Necpaly as their family name, but smaller portions passed to the Komorovský and Záblatský families.

The surveys of the eastern foothills of the Malá Fatra Mountains (northern Slovakia) have brought new information about the settlement of the Turiec region. In the hillfort with double rampart lines on a rocky hill not far from Ondrašová, district Turčianske Teplice, isolated finds from the Middle La Tène period and intensive early medieval settlement were found. This fortification and nearby newly discovered sites in Abramová-Polerieka and Zniev significantly increased the number of hill top settlements from the 9th–10th century in the region, where until now mainly small agricultural settlements and burial mounds were investigated.

The article publishes the first coin find from the northern Slovak region of Turiec, with the final coinage from the Early Migration Period. These are mostly the heavily worn 4th century copper coins. The hoard of this type is characteristic mainly for the northern Central Danube region. Based on the few compiled and analyzed settlement finds from the highlands, it was assumed that this area was rather under the influence of the late Suebian settlement of southwestern and western Slovakia and proves few connections with the neighboring area of the North Carpathian Group. It also supports the distribution of the 4th–5th century sites in the south and their absence in the north of the region.

The paper deals with the existing interpretations of some Slovak hydronyms and presents some denominations from the new point of view as well. The author analyzes the hydronyms such as Vah, Zarnovica, Rajcanka, Muran, Bystrica, Slana, Turiec, Perina and the others. The latest points of view arise from the confrontations with the works of colleagues in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.
