Continuous change is an integral part of the postmodern life and it leaves its traces both in culture and the public communication. It therefore seems crucial to open oneself to a new, more profound way of understanding culture, while also taking into consideration the confrontation which takes place when an individual or a community face all that is unknown, untamed and transgressive. This search for the source of a more profound reflection on the identity of a grown human being in postmodern culture also means openness to andragogic thinking. In this context, it seems important to see Television Theatre as a space for the meaningful voice. Theatre offers the chance to see oneself from a distance, find one’s roots, reveal secret desires or contradictory impulses. The aim of this self-reflection, sparked by a theatre play, is to produce formative anxiousness.

Ponowoczesne życie niesie konieczność funkcjonowania w sytuacji nieustannej zmiany, która pozostawia ślady w przestrzeni kultury, również w sferze społecznego komunikowania. Niezbędne wydaje się zatem wzbudzenie w sobie otwartości na odczytywanie kultury w nowy, głębszy sposób, z uwzględnieniem konfrontacji jednostki i wspólnoty z tym, co jest obce, nieoswojone, transgresyjne. To poszukiwanie źródeł głębszej refleksji na temat tożsamości człowieka dorosłego w ponowoczesnej kulturze oznacza także otwarcie myślenia andragogicznego. Warto w tym kontekście uruchomić edukacyjny wymiar Teatru Telewizji jako miejsca zabierania głosu znaczącego. W teatrze człowiek ma szansę przyjrzeć się sobie z dystansu, by na nowo odnaleźć własne korzenie, ujawnić ukryte pragnienia czy sprzeczne impulsy. Celem generowanej przez spektakl teatralny autorefleksji jest budzenie rozwojowego niepokoju.

This article covers the artistic achievements of Aleksandra Śląska (1925–1989), a Polish theatre and film actress remembered mainly for her portrayals of German women and aristocrats.The author focuses on the emergence of this typecasting of Śląska and counters it with a discussion of her less known professional image. The article offers an analysis of a wide array of Śląska’s diverse roles, from a part in Leon Kruczkowski’s drama Niemcy (Germans), through the title role in Henry de Montherlant’s La Reine morte and Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire, to successful appearances in comedies, such as Elwira in Aleksander Fredro’s Mąż i żona (Man and Wife). The author shows that Śląska’s generation shaped Polish culture under the People’s Republic and contributed to the development of new media. Śląska co-created the Polish school of radio play, Polish school of dubbing, and Television Theatre. The article juxtaposes the myth of a cold, unapproachable actress with the image of a multi-talented interpreter exploring the complexity of human nature, a woman of the theatre active in a number of different areas.

Television Theatre is a genre on the border between theatre, film and television. One special example is the so-called art of fact, whose purpose is the reconstruction of events according to facts and reality. The following paper, which is based on the analysis of selected historical performances of the Polish Television Theatre, is an attempt at presenting it as a medium that plays an important role in education and popularisation of the Polish history of the 20th century. At the same time, it is an invitation to more detailed and interdisciplinary research into television theatre.

Teatr Telewizji jest gatunkiem kształtującym się na pograniczu teatru, filmu i telewizji. Szczególnym jego rodzajem są utwory należące do tak zwanej sztuki faktu, której celem jest rekonstruowanie wydarzeń zgodnie z faktami i realiami. Niniejsza praca, oparta na analizie wybranych spektakli historycznych polskiego Teatru Telewizji, jest próbą ukazania go jako medium odgrywającego ważną rolę edukacyjną oraz w popularyzowaniu historii Polski XX wieku. Równocześnie jest zaproszeniem do bardziej szczegółowych i interdyscyplinarnych badań nad telewizyjnym teatrem.

Współczesna epoka zmusza jednostkę do nieustannego poszukiwania swojej tożsamości. W moim artykule postanowiłam przyjrzeć się przestrzeni sztuk telewizyjnych i odszukać w niej inspirujące źródła dotyczące obrazów ludzkiej egzystencji. Spektakle Teatru Telewizji posłużyły mi jako zwierciadła, ukazujące niezwykłe odcienie kobiecych sylwetek. Swoją uwagę skoncentrowałam na obecnych w narracjach elementach: rolach społecznych, pragnieniach, znaczących relacjach z innymi ludźmi, kryzysach egzystencjalnych oraz newralgicznych wyborach życiowych. Teatralny kolaż̇ stał się podstawą do sformułowania refleksji na temat kobiecej kondycji we współczesnym świecie.

The modern age forces the individual to constantly search for his/ her identity. In my article, I decided to look at the space of television art and find in it inspirational sources about the images of human existence. The plays of the Television Theatre served as mirrors, showing unusual shades of feminine profiles. I focused my attention on the elements included in narratives: social roles, desires, significant relationships with other people, existential crises and crucial life choices. Theatrical collage has become the basis for formulating reflections on the subject of women’s condition in the modern world.
