The purpose of the article was to draw attention to usefulness of a relatively recently separated, additional time structuring category: play. This category refers to Natural Child’s activity state, under which a person consciously takes actions with a high level of spontaneity, which is a source of pleasant emotions. This way of time structuring, despite having some common points, differs both from pastimes, games, activities and intimacy, covering some categorisation gaps in Berne’s categorisation system. It was confirmed by my own study on the link between students’ style of living and time structuring, which showed that play has an important role in their lives.

This article shows how Internet resources can be used in self-education. Increasingly, the cyberspace is used for quick acquisition of new qualifications. Recently, Internet sites offering language courses are becoming more and more popular in cyberspace activity. Rarely, however, do we come across pages that – apart from education – offer something more. This article attempts to describe one innovative site (a special portal) devoted to learning a language, which is a combination of a social community and education. This is a new way of self-educating activity. On one hand, we can study languages, and, on the other hand, we have contact with multi-culture resources. Self-education allows for communicating with people of different nationalities: talking with e.g. English, Italian or Spanish people. Each of them, apart from the exchange of language experiences, offers special, individual cultural values. At the same time we can learn and be in touch with multiculturalism. In addition, interactive pages and their attractive design allow for more effective and enjoyable learning in the comfort of people’s own home Thanks to the multilateral impact, involving intellect and emotions, even adults can learn as easy as children.

Z perspektywy analizy transakcyjnej człowiek, aby móc funkcjonować i rozwijać się optymalnie, powinien dysponować właściwie ukształtowanymi, pozostającymi w równowadze trzema stanami osobowości – wewnętrznym Rodzicem, Dorosłym i Dzieckiem. Przy czym o równowadze tej w przeważającej mierze decyduje wewnętrzny Dorosły. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie punktów wspólnych analizy transakcyjnej i podejścia skoncentrowanego na rozwiązaniach jako orientacji pracy pomocowej i edukacyjnej z osobą dorosłą oraz możliwości włączania zasobów obu podejść w pracy nad osiąganiem przez klientów celów życiowych poprzez wzmacnianie stanu Ja-Dorosły. Wykorzystywanie w pracy z klientem technik AT i PSR sprzyja wzmacnianiu i aktualizowaniu potencjału i sprawczości osoby, co przekłada się na poczucie satysfakcji, zadowolenia i szczęścia. Przedstawione w niniejszym opracowaniu propozycje wykorzystywania AT i PSR we wzmacnianiu stanu Ja-Dorosłego odzwierciedlają doświadczenia pomocowe autorki w tym zakresie.

In Transactional Analysis, optimal human functioning and development are ensured when the equilibrium of three properly developed ego-states, the Parent, the Adult and the Child, is maintained. The equilibrium relies predominantly on the functioning of the Adult. The aim of this article is to explore potential points of convergence between Translational Analysis (TA) and Solution-Focused Approach (SFA). Both approaches focus on help and educational work with adults. Thus, a question arises if the resources available in both approaches can be jointly used when working with clients on their life objectives through strengthening their Adult ego-state. Mixed application of AT and SFA fosters the increase and development of the potential and agency, which leads to a sense of satisfaction, well-being and happiness. The proposal to use TA and SFA together in order to strengthen the Adult ego-state of the client is drawn from the author’s own experience as helper.

The article presents an attempt to use an egogram as a research tool for examining personality structure of computer users. The survey sample consisted of 189 respondents. The analysis concerned interdependency between the average level of the structure of the subjects’ ego-states and such variables as the declared level of computer skills, work with office software, playing computer games, using social networking sites, communicating with the help of the computer, online shopping, sending, sharing and downloading files, watching films, listening to music, searching for current information, searching for gossips and oddities, as well as activities connected with expanding one’s knowledge. The participants of the study were asked to select the timescale for a given activity during the day.

Artykuł poświęcony jest problemowi wulgaryzacji języka, który znacznie się nasilił w ostatnich kilkudziesięciu latach. Celem autorki było przyjrzenie się przekazom językowym zawierającym wulgaryzmy z perspektywy wybranych koncepcji analizy transakcyjnej. Zgromadziła materiał badawczy w postaci opisów 200 codziennych sytuacji, w których zostały użyte słowa i zwroty wulgarne. Dokonała analizy treści tych wypowiedzi (jakościowej z wykorzystaniem wskaźników ilościowych), starając się określić przede wszystkim aktywność stanów Ja nadawców w odniesieniu do funkcji stosowanych wulgaryzmów oraz ich pozycje życiowe w ujawnionych sytuacjach. Ponadto przyjrzała się wulgaryzmom jako nośnikom znaków rozpoznania i umniejszeń. Interpretacje wyników badań wskazują z jednej strony na zróżnicowany charakter wypowiedzi wulgarnych, z drugiej – na ich znaczenie dla relacji interpersonalnych i dla samego nadawcy wypowiedzi. Wnioski z przeprowadzonych analiz skłaniają do dalszych eksploracji tego pola badawczego w perspektywie analizy transakcyjnej.

The article is devoted to the problem of language vulgarization, which has significantly intensified in recent decades. The aim of the author was to observe linguistic expressions containing vulgarisms from the perspective of some TA conceptions. The gathered research material was in the form of 200 descriptions of everyday situations with vulgar words and phrases, which have been analysed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The primary aim has been to define the activity of the speakers’ ego states in relation to the functions of vulgarisms used, as well as their life positions in the presented situations. Besides, the author has examined vulgarisms as transmitters of strokes and discounts. The analysis of the research results shows, on the one hand, a diverse character of vulgar expressions, and, on the other hand, their significance for interpersonal relations and for the speaker. The conclusions drawn from the analysis may stimulate further exploration of this research field from TA perspective.

This article discussed the use of Transactional Analysis concept in executive coaching. The author focused on the basic principles of work with the client as well as selected tools in leading the executive coaching process. One of the main limitations of the Transactional Analysis theory is that it has no clear and structured methodology for coaching session. Thus, it can serve as a support for experienced coaches with, however, limited impact on the whole coaching society. In the last part of the article, the author proposed a model of coaching session structure in Transactional Analysis field, which was developed based on her professional practice in working with managers and organisations.

Artykuł dotyczy wykorzystania koncepcji Analizy Transakcyjnej w executive coachingu. Autorka głównie koncentruje się na omówieniu bazowych założeń pracy z klientem oraz prezentuje wybrane narzędzia wykorzystywane w executive coachingu. Jednym z ograniczeń w stosowaniu Analizy Transakcyjnej jest to, że nie ma ona jasnej i ustrukturyzowaneej metodologii prowadzenia sesji. Może zatem służyć jako wsparcie dla doświadczonych coachów, którzy potrzebują dodatkowych narzędzi, lecz ogranicza impakt, jaki może wnieść w całe środowisko coachingowe. W ostatniej części opracowania autorka prezentuje proponowany model prowadzenia procesu coachingowego w nurcie Analizy Transakcyjnej, który wypracowała przez lata praktyki w pracy z menedżerami i organizacjami.

Transactional Analysis is currently one of the most holistic personality theories, well recognised in the vast business world reality. In contemporary organisations Transactional Analysis (TA) is applied in order to recognise psychological mechanisms of communication, interferences in its flow, and also to plan changes enhancing the information flow process. The article presents assumptions of Transactional Analysis with reference to the leadership practice that requires managerial maturity in developing responsible and satisfying relations with employees (the so-called transactions as referred to by the TA language). Having assumed the manager’s personality and its maturity level constitute the key factors in shaping leadership efficiency, tools proposed by the TA concept have been deployed to determine the transactional profile of an efficient manager and to formulate the development tendencies. Owing to its consistency with the partner leadership approach, the Transactional Analysis model offers a perspective of numerous references to managerial practice and provides precise development indications.

Applying Transactional Analysis to Facilitate Self-Regulation of Trainee Translators and Interpreters

This article rests on the assumption that self-regulation of trainee translators/interpreters can be significantly enhanced by moderating classroom communication practices. This concerns, in particular, the communication exchange relating to assessment. It is argued that assessment-related communication activates complex psychological mechanisms, which can either empower or disempower self-regulation. To illustrate such mechanisms, the author briefly discusses the theory of Transactional Analysis. It is a conceptual framework proposed originally by Eric Berne to explain the intricacies of how people communicate to attain their psychological goals. Berne’s observations are adapted to the micro-cosmos of the translation/interpreting classroom in order offer its participants tools of regulating their communicative interactions. The article ends with a handful of recommended activities intended to inspire the readers to research further and train the skills discussed in the article.

Niniejszy artykuł opiera się na założeniu, że sprawności samoregulacyjne kształcących się tłumaczy pisemnych i ustnych można znacząco poprawić poprzez zarządzanie procesami komunikacji interpersonalnej w procesie edukacyjnym. W sposób szczególny dotyczy to komunikatów w funkcji oceny. Autor stawia tezę, że ten typ komunikacji wyzwala złożone mechanizmy psychologiczne (postawy i zachowania) jej uczestników, które mogą prowadzić do wzmocnienia lub osłabienia sprawności samoregulacyjnych. Aby przyjrzeć się tym mechanizmom, autor omawia skrótowo teorię Analizy Transakcyjnej. Jest to koncepcja autorstwa Erica Berne’a, za której pomocą wyjaśnia on złożoność procesów komunikacji jako niezbędnej do osiągania przez ludzi ich celów życiowych. Poczynione przez Berne’a obserwacje znajdują w artykule zastosowanie w mikroskali programu kształcenia tłumaczy. Ich celem jest wyposażenie uczestników procesu dydaktycznego w narzędzia sterowania interakcjami komunikacyjnymi. Na końcu artykułu autor zamieszcza kilka ćwiczeń, których celem jest zachęcenie czytelnika do podjęcia dalszych studiów i samokształcenia się w zakresie omawianej tematyki.

It would seem that “meeting” is an adequate synonym of term “tutoring”. This always has its time and space. Of course, the best situation is when the an unhurried and attentive meeting is based on a mutual attitude of dialogue. In transactional analysis, this form of human relationship is called intimacy. Intimacy is the most valuable type of time structure. and respectively ranks the games, activity, pastimes, ritual and withdrawal. The time structure allows specifing the kind of action plan of the individual and also the nature of its relationships with others. But what do tutors think about these issues? The following article will be an attempt to answer this question. This work will be based on partially directed interviews conducted by the author with an intentionally chosen group of teachers in schools implementing the tutoring method.

Wydawać by się mogło, że adekwatnym synonimem pojęcia „tutoring” jest „spotkanie”. Ma ono zawsze swój czas i przestrzeń. Oczywiście najlepiej jest, gdy opiera się na wzajemnej postawie dialogu, jest niespieszne i uważne. Taką formę kontaktu międzyludzkiego analiza transakcyjna określa mianem intymności. Jest ona najwartościowszą kategorią strukturalizacji czasu i odpowiednio plasuje się nad: grami transakcyjnymi, aktywnością, rozrywkami, rytuałami i wycofaniem. Strukturalizacja czasu pozwala określić swoisty plan działania człowieka i charakter jego relacji z innymi. Co jednak o tej problematyce sądzą sami tutorzy? Poniższy artykuł będzie stanowił próbę odpowiedzi na to pytanie, czego źródłem będą częściowo kierowane wywiady przeprowadzone przez autorkę z celowo wybraną grupą nauczycieli realizujących w szkołach metodę tutoringu.
