The world economic crisis has had a big impact on the air transport business efficiency. Its effects are still present and require difficult and costly actions to be taken not only by airports managements, but also urban agglomerations’ authorities. Managers responsible for air transport coordination, with their limited investment funds, are forced to continuously improve the effectiveness of f light economics and of airports’ utilization. The article presents the outcomes of the economic crisis of the air transport busi- ness in Poland. It describes the circumstances conditioning the development of Katowice-Pyrzowice Airport and its future in a staggering economy, with special consideration to investments widening the availability of airport services within the urban agglomeration.

In this paper the monthly data (based on the data of the Central Statistical Office) concerning air transport of passengers by aircrafts owned by Polish operators covering the period 1992 until 2005 are analysed. Four alternative models are taken into account for the description of this data: seasonal variations model with dummy variables, seasonal autoregressive model, seasonal ARIMA model and Winters exponential smoothing. A comparison between all these models in terms of the quality for forecasting is considered. A forecast for the first half of 2006 is presented and verified. (original abstract)

We present an application of a methodology we developed earlier to capture a decision maker's preferences in multiobjective environments to a notorious problem in the realm of Air Traffic Management, namely the Airport Gate Assignment Problem. The problem has been modelled as an all-integer optimisation problem with two criteria. We have implemented this methodology into the commercial solver CPLEX and also into an Evolutionary Multiobjective Optimisation algorithm and we have solved with them a numerical instance of the Airport Gate Assignment Problem for a couple of decision making scenarios.
