The paper presents 'Trybuna Ludu's' reporting on American involvement in South Vietnam during general J. Lawton Collins' mission to Saigon between 21 July 1954 and 14 May 1955. The communist newspaper reported that the U.S. was determined to substitute the French in South Vietnam and maintain control over it even if it meant breaking the Geneva Accords of 1954 or oppressing the Vietnamese. Effort is made to contrast such opinions with what is generally known about the U.S. Vietnam policy. A conclusion is then reached that regardless of factual mistakes and blunt communist propaganda, 'Trybuna Ludu' was basically correct in assessing American intentions. At that time the U.S decided to make every effort to secure a non-communist South Vietnam.
