The article is devoted to the analysis of Ivan Franko's folk theory on the example of reconstruction of concept of feminine fate in folk culture of the Ukrainians. Ivan Franko, a poet, a writer, a historian, a Ukrainian 'literati' as one of the first in the Slavic humanities at the turn of XIX-XX centuries undertook the task of scientific description of folk phenomena from the standpoint of rationalism and comparative data, which present a rich system of mental concepts of the Ukrainians.
