In the pieces of literature described in the article that were written by Ukrainian authors in exile is the memory of Lviv — lost and left behind by them for ever — transformed into an oneiric unreal picture. The picture of the remembered and partly imagined city from the past becomes simultaneously a pretext of talking about identity problems, collective memory as well as loneliness of an individual and uniqueness of human experience.
