Podejmowanie decyzji gospodarczych wymaga kompleksowych i rzetelnych informacji o funkcjonowaniu jednostek gospodarczych, ich sytuacji finansowej, zmiennych warunkach działania. Celem artykułu jest przeprowadzenie rozważań z zakresu jakości informacji o sytuacji finansowej jednostek gospodarczych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem informacji finansowych i wykazaniem różnicy między pojmowaniem jakości i użyteczności informacji. W procesie wnioskowania podkreślono, że o ile można zastosować pojęcie jakości do sprawozdań finansowych, o tyle w odniesieniu do informacji finansowych należy mówić o ich użyteczności, która nie ogranicza się do wskazania cech jakościowych użytecznej informacji finansowej. Realizacja celu artykułu wymagała zastosowania metody analizy opisowej, porównawczej i krytycznej.

Economic decision-making requires comprehensive and reliable information on the functioning of business entities, their financial standing and the changing conditions of their environment. The purpose of this article is to elaborate on the quality of information on the financial standing of business entities, with a particular emphasis put on the financial information and with a demonstration of the difference between understanding the quality and usefulness of information. In the reasoning process it was highlighted that whereas the concept of quality can be applied to the financial statements, in regard to the financial information it is its usefulness that should be taken into consideration, as it is not limited to indicating the qualitative characteristics of any useful financial information only. Implementation of the article's purpose required the use of the method of descriptive, comparative and critical analysis.
