The article refers to a threefold concept: family – school – social institutions (as presented by Professor Andrzej M. de Tchorzewski). The basic considerations relate, for example, to utopia and different ways of understanding of this concept, as well as the utopian nature of the concept of triunity itself. This concept collides with many phenomena and processes that cause the deconstruction or reconstruction of its individual components (families, schools, social institutions). In addition, contemporary societies are faced – with greater or lesser success – with serious problems that also concern education and upbringing, and thus also the aforementioned triunity. Education – which is also involved in this triunity – is located between a utopia and real world. Against this background, questions and answers are formulated, something which should be done in order to make more a people-friendly world (simplifying – more utopian). It is also an invitation for reflection on what must be considered as priorities in the educational process.
Borys Bigun, Erik Martin, HETEROTOPIA IN THE UKRAINIAN CONTEMPORARY PROSE (JURIJ ANDRUCHOVYČ, SERHIJ ŽADAN UND VJAČESLAV ŠNAJDER). “PORÓWNANIA” 1 (24), 2019. Vol. XXIV, P. 45-53. ISSN 1733-165X. The concept of “heterotopia”, developed by Michel Foucault in his work “Of Other Spaces”, is one of the most frequently used notions in contemporary spatial studies. Literary and artistic heterotopias capture the destruction of a homogeneous social space, during which utopian and real-pragmatic principles that used to constitute one unified whole start to function as elements confronting each other under the pressure of previously repressed or played down and currently re-actualized ideas pertaining to a certain culture. Basing on the representative works by Yuriy Andrukhovych, Serhiy Zhadan and VyacheslavShnaider, the paper analyzes the semantics and functions of heterotopias in the context of literary mapping of post-Soviet Ukraine.

Correlation between fantasy and humor in Die Geisterhand by Dieter Kühn This article aims to analyze the concepts of fantasy and humor in a fantasy novel for children Die Geisterhand (1978) by Dieter Kühn. Analytical part is preceded by a brief theoretical introduction (thesis of Gansel, Todorov and Heinrich). Dieter Kühn science-fiction novel in the light of the typology of Gansel can be classified as a dystopia, which takes the issue of personality disorders and the crisis of human identity of 70s of the last century. Humor of liberation remains in this work in close relation to term fantasy and primarily pursues a therapeutic function, since presented episodes on the fantastic plane are deprived of their overwhelming significance. Thus the criticism of imperfect social mechanisms and faulty relationships in the 70s is significantly eased thanks to a comical potential of the book.

The story of a well-ordered state is one of the crucial narrations of the Western civilization. Platonic ‘Republic’ and the biblical story of the Tower of Babel are at its beginning. The ancient ideal of a political community is a harmonious society: full synchronization of needs, interests, and goals of people who constitute it. This, in essence, is a classical depiction of a perfect republic. This ideal has been with us ever since. Consecutive failures of those who had tried to fulfill the republican utopia of a stable civic government – where citizens share one goal, one vision of common good, and identify the way of its accomplishment in a similar way – led its critics to reject the very possibility of a government of equals. A new hope arose in the 18th century, thanks to the Founding Fathers, who were the creators of the American republican experiment – one that was erected far away from Europe but was based on her intellectual legacy and political experience. The American project has lasted for more than two centuries and it is now a referential point for all the modern parliamentary democracies in the old Europe. The aim of this article is to grasp the phenomenon of the American republicanism and to answer the following question: is it just another utopia of a civic government or did the Founding Fathers and their descendants finally manage to overcome its fundamental weakness of instability?

After recalling the figure of Pantagruel, a grandson of the king of Utopia and king of the Dipsodes - which makes it possible to evoke some of the properties of utopia, and in particular that which consists of searching within utopia itself for filial links it maintains with previous texts - the discussion is narrowed down to the figure of the king in the tradition of utopia, with Sylvain Maréchal's Last Judgement of Kings serving as an example. Next, attention is directed more specifically to the figure of the king of Poland, a figure particularly suited to stimulate the political imagination of Europeans in the 18th century, and then to the person of Stanislas Leszczyński - the only sovereign to have written a utopia. He is the author of the short novel Entretien d’un Européan avec un insulaire du Royaume de Dumocala, which is both faithful to the narrative model it helps to perpetuate and devoid of any revolutionary intentions.

This article concerns the following problem: is European Union actually a utopian concept? A good deal of critics on the European political scene support such view. There are even those who claim that the European Union is simply a new face of the utopian communistic Marxism, therefore a totalitarian system. This article is an attempt to verify these statements. Moreover, it contains the arguments that may support such views. Additionally, its purpose is to check whether within the cultural phenomena (inside the EU) are those that would exemplify the qualities of the way of thinking and acting as characteristics of a totalitarian utopia. The paper shows the ideological and philosophical roots of such utopia. In the conclusion, therefore, I claim that EU is subordinate (especially in the realm of values) to a certain, in a way also totalitarian ideology – namely to oikophobia.
