Research on wet and dry pollution deposition was carried out at two measurement points situated on opposite sides of the Goczałkowice Reservoir. On the east side was a station in Goczałkowice and on the west side was a station in Frelichów. Meteorological monitoring was conducted at four points situated in the vicinity of the reservoir. On the basis of the research carried out between 2011–2013 it was concluded that the size of dry and wet deposition in the area of the Goczałkowice Reservoir is diversified in particular years, seasons and months. Due to high precipitation and biological processes (activity of flora and fauna) the pollutant loads in the form of biogenic compounds (nitrogen and phosphorus) are the highest in the summer season. Whereas pollutant inputs in the form of dry deposition are highest in the winter season (heating season), which in the case of a thick ice and snow cover in the spring time causes their accumulation and increased input into the reservoir water (thawing weather, snow-melt season). In relation to the 1970s the size of the deposition became smaller, but in the case of biogenic compounds it was diversified. A decrease was observed in the case of total nitrogen but an increase in the case of phosphorus. On the basis of a comparison of the received results with the data provided by the Provincial Inspector for Environmental Protection and calculated for the annual area deposition of the Pszczyna district in 2011 it appears that deposition of total nitrogen in the reservoir area slightly exceeded the area value. In the case of total phosphorus in relation to the area data the deposition was over twice as high, which indicates that biogenic compounds are still a significant load of atmospheric deposition in the reservoir area.

The aim of the research was to estimate the role of the beach in the process of self – purification of water in the Vistula River. The study could become a very important voice in the debate about the future and development of Vistula River. A self-purification process involves the disposal of pollutants entering the water from the catchement of the River. A measure of the Vistula water purification process of organic matter is the amount of oxygen that is consumed by the beach settlement. That is the amount of burned organic matter by psammon during cellular respiration. In addition, the calculation of the amount of organic matter, which was worn by psammon can be the measure of “goods and services of the ecosystem” of the river

The tradition of the Vistula River navigation is deeply rooted in our culture. One of the cities that flourished thanks to its location on the Vistula River rout was my home city Toruń. Nowadays the Vistula embankments are very popular among the city inhabitants, yet the potential of the river has not been 122 used in full. The river has not been re-introduced to the city dwellers; also the long-lived tradition of regular passenger navigation on the Vistula River is unacknowledged. The aim of my project is both to remind us of Toruń’s relation with the Baltic Sea and to revive the historical Vistula River sailing rout from Toruń to Gdańsk (together with Żuławska Loop). The project of the river cruise ship dedicated to the city of Toruń resulted from my analytical philosophical, historical, architectonical, ecological and sociological (referring to the style of life and the various needs of contemporary people) reflections. The project may be understood as one of various solutions of the problem of lack of interesting alternatives for spending leisure time; the alternatives that slow down the full speed life of vast majority of the city dwellers. The project consists of the sailing rout project, the 10-day-programme of the cruise, the functional system of the ship spaces (due to all technical limitations), the description of both mass and architecture of the ship. The project of the ship ought to suit the needs of both tourists and the inhabitants of Toruń. It is rooted in the contemporary philosophical search for both getting back to nature and slowing down the dazzling pace of stressful life. Thus my project refers to the concepts of e.x. ecotourism, slow-food, effective use of leisure time, environmentally sustainable design and Design for All. With reference to the esthetics of the ship, the „classical”, harmonic and original form is essential (that stands out against overused futuristic stylizations). „Harmonics” of proportions and „the rhythm” of the ship harmonize with the Panorama of Toruń, as the ship becomes an element of the local landscape during winter when it is impossible to navigate on the Vistula River.

Field surveys for the Fire-bellied toad Bombina bombina were conducted in spring and summer 2013 and 2014. The study area is located in the Vistula River valley, north of Warsaw in Mazovia, central Poland. The area is of a high natural value and partially overlaps with two Natura 2000 areas: the Kampinos section of the Vistula River valley (PLH 140029) and the Middle Vistula River valley (PLB 140004). Two breeding sites of Fire- -bellied toads were detected in the vicinity of river dikes, including one in an ephemeral pond located in the flooded part of the river valley. The results document the decrease in number of breeding sites of the species. The surviving two local populations of Fire-bellied toads are endangered with illegal dumping of construction debris and the close vicinity of motocross track. To reduce the risk of extinction of local populations of Fire-bellied toads in Vistula valley, the authors discuss the proposition to enlarge existing Natura 2000 areas.
