A major focus of attention in psychology has been on the consequences and determinants of well-being. Religiosity and personality have both been shown to predict mental health and well-being, but the two predictors have not often been investigated together. In 4 studies involving 7 surveys (total N = 1,530) in various social and religious contexts, the relations among well-being, religious orientation, and personality factors were studied. Results showed that Extraversion was the single strongest correlate of higher levels of subjective and psychological well-being. Religiosity had null or weak positive relationships with well-being, and managed to explain variance in some aspects of positive functioning beyond personality factors. The null or week relationship of religiosity with well-being beyond personality was consistent across the HEXACO and the Big Five models of personality structure. It has been suggested that religion is relatively more important for eudaimonic than for hedonic way of living.

Striving for a success in parallel to the simultaneous attainment of high level of well-being is these days a common phenomenon. For quite a long time it has been also in the focus of the scientific debates and papers also dealing with education. This paper presents the findings of the study on the teachers’ perception of the student success in the context of assessment of selected success determinants and/or indicators. While analysing the theoretical relationship between student's well-being and educational success, 4 selected factors taken from the Buchner (2004) study were considered key to the undertaken research. The results showed that teachers tend to recognize factors related to the student's well-being as indicators of success, which means they perceive it as a result of achievement. Meanwhile the care for the student’s well-being before undertaking an educational task as a success determinant-related situation seems to be less visible.

The novel coronavirus pandemic has triggered an economic slowdown worldwide, aggravating those steadily accumulated inequalities in income and wealth redistribution. Western-type capitalism, international cooperation, and European integration have found themselves at risk. This article points out the resemblances and dissimilarities in policies combating the recessions of 2008 and 2020 on both sides of the Atlantic, focusing specifically on the EU and Canada. It assesses the rising popularity of the welfarestate concept applied both to individuals and entire businesses deemed essential for democracy, notably in the EU, for which the protection of citizens’ well-being and solidarity values are at the core of bloc integration. Conceptually confl icting solutions for those crises refl ect a profound shift in policy making, reinforcing state interventions vs the neoliberal approach and intensifying discussions on a universal basic income as a tool in redressing socio-economic inequalities. This paper highlights the need for a trans-disciplinary approach to benefi t policy making.

Nowadays, we agree that culture is at the heart of understanding the interrelationship between economic, social and environmental issues. Culture is at the center of interest for sustainable development policy, which is also reflected in transnational, national, regional and local strategies. The main problem undertaken in this text is to show how the perception and role of culture in modern public management in Poland changes in the context of implementing the concept of sustainable development. The research field was the strategic documents subjected to a multi-stage content analysis. They led to interesting conclusions in many fields, also relevant for management practice.

This study draws on a transnational research project called MYPLACE (Memory, Youth, Political Legacy and Civic Engagement) which received funding from the European Commission. Survey data from almost 17000 young people from fourteen European countries were used to identify socio-demographic factors which are linked to young people’s participation. Male, upper social class, higher self-perceived discrimination, greater diversity in social network, higher political socialization in family, and higher political knowledge are significantly related to greater level of political, and civic participation. In addition, higher civic participation is significantly associated with greater satisfaction with life, higher level of trust for politicians and parliament. Moreover, those in education, rated high in household income, reported greater trust for political parties and those from conservative state appeared to have significantly greater political participation. These findings are discussed in the context of previous empirical studies and theories on participation and well-being. Suggestions for future research are also put forward.

Niniejsze opracowanie opiera się na wynikach międzynarodowego projektu badawczego zatytułowanego MYPLACE (Memory, Youth, Political Legacy and Civic Engagement; MOJE MIEJSCE – Pamięć, Młodzież, Dziedzictwo Polityczne, Zaangażowanie Obywatelskie) – project ten sfinansowano ze środków Komisji Europejskiej. Dane surveyowe uzyskane od prawie 17 tysięcy młodych ludzi z 14 europejskich krajów posłużyły do zidentyfikowania socjodemograficznych czynników powiązanych ze zjawiskiem partycypacji młodych ludzi. Męska płeć, pochodzenie z wyższej klasy społecznej, większa świadomość dyskryminacji (higher self-perceived discrimination), większe zróżnicowanie sieci społecznych, wyższy poziom politycznej socjalizacji w rodzinie, większy zakres wiedzy politycznej istotnie korelują z wyższym poziomem politycznego i obywatelskiego uczestnictwa. Ponadto wyższy poziom partycypacji jest znacząco powiązany z większą satysfakcją życiową, wyższym poziomem zaufania do polityków i władz parlamentarnych. Jednocześnie osoby uczące się, o wyższym poziomie dochodów w gospodarstwie domowym deklarują większe zaufanie do partii politycznych, a osoby z państw określanych mianem konserwatywnych wydaje się cechować znacząco wyższy poziom uczestnictwa politycznego. Ustalenia te poddane zostały dyskusji w kontekście wcześniejszych analiz empirycznych oraz teorii dotyczących partycypacji i jakości życia (well-being). Sformułowano również wskazania dotyczące przyszłych badań z zakresu tej problematyki.
