Artykuł przedstawia najważniejsze problemy związane z produkcją, przesyłem gazu ziemnego oraz ropy naftowej w państwach Zachodniego Turkiestanu, czyli byłej radzieckiej Azji Środkowej, obejmującej Kazachstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenię, Tadżykistan oraz Kirgizję. Kraje te, ze względu na obecność wielkich złóż surowców, znalazły się w kręgu zainteresowań rosyjskich firm energetycznych, koncernów zachodnich oraz zmagającej się z deficytem gazu ziemnego i ropy naftowej ChRL. Z czasem to właśnie „Państwo Środka” okazało się najbardziej zdeterminowanym graczem, skutecznie starającym się o dostęp do surowców energetycznych Turkiestanu. Autor artykułu analizuje możliwości rosyjsko – chińskiej współpracy w zagospodarowaniu tych złóż. Ta rosyjsko – chińska rywalizacja ma również istotne znaczenie dla europejskiego rynku paliw. Perspektywa realizacji projektów przesyłu turkmeńskiego gazu ziemnego i kazachskiej ropy do Europy oddala się, co umacnia pozycję Federacji Rosyjskiej w europejskim sektorze energetycznym

The article presents the most important issues concerning the natural gas and crude oil production and transportation in the post-Soviet countries of Central Asia (Western Turkestan), that is to say in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Since these countries have serious energy resources, they became a point of attention for Russian and Western energy sector companies and also for China. Due to the economic growth in China and growing demand for energy, this power proved to be the most influential player. The paper shows the perspectives of Russian-Chinese rivalry about energy resources as well as the possibilities of cooperation between Moscow and Beijing. This rivalry has also serious consequences for the European oil market, since natural gas and petroleum transportation projects from the Caspian Sea basin to Europe seem to drift away. This strengthens Russian position in the European energy market
