The Supreme Audit Office has carried out two ad hoc audits in the Regional Office for Monuments Protection (WUOZ) in the city of Gdańsk: a complaint audit and a follow-up audit that covered the years 2013–2016. One of the main reasons to conduct the complaint audit was information sent to NIK regarding, among others, demolition of historic buildings located in the area of the former Gdańsk Shipyard. Apart from monuments protection in the post-shipyard area, within its complaint audit NIK examined the following topics: protection of monuments in case of armed conflicts and crisis situations, transporting abroad of The Last Judgement by Netherlandish painter Hans Memling, the demolition of the ruins of the Woli Łeb granary, and the register of monuments. The follow-up audit was aimed at verifying the manner of implementation of the recommendations formulated as a result of the complaint audit.
