Women make up more than half of the population and labor force in Europe, more than half of university graduates, but their participation in decision-making positions in business and science is disproportionately smaller at all levels of decision-making. The relationship between gender and innovativeness is analyzed mainly in two areas. The first is the participation of women and men in science, engineering and technology (SET) sometimes widened further with mathematics (STEM). The second area is the participation in entrepreneurship and the business. Due to a number of obstacles in both areas an underrepresentation of women is noticeable. The article identifies the key obstacles for women's activity into the above specified areas as well as identify opportunities to overcome them.
