Am Anfang werden der Begriff des Katastrophismus in der reinen Form des geschichtsphilosophischen finistischen Pessimismus wie auch seine Beziehung zur Idee der Krise besprochen. Weiter werden Unterscheidungen im Bereich des Katastrophismus hinsichtlich des Umfangs der Katastrophe (totale oder partikulare Dimension) und des Charakters ihres Verlaufs (unabwendbar und irreversibel oder allein hypothetisch, alternativ) eingeführt. Die Zusammenführung der zwei Auffassungen des Katastrophismus ergibt vier Varianten des katastrophischen Gedankens: 1. den konsequenten Totalkatastrophismus, den konsequenten Partikularkatastrophismus, den alternativen Totalkatastrophismus und den alternativen Partikularkatastrophismus. Diese Modelle werden dazu verwendet, eine allgemeine Bezeichnung des "Katastrophismus" zu formulieren.

The idea of catastrophism is discussed at the outset, as a pure form of historiosophic pessimism of the end times, and positioned in relation to the idea of crisis. The article goes on to introduce distinctions in catastrophism - in terms of scope (total or particular) and nature of its course (inevitable and irreversible or only hypothetical, alternative). The juxtaposition of the abovementioned catastrophic approaches results in four variants of catastrophic thoughts: 1. consistent total catastrophism; 2. consistent particular catastrophism; 3. alternative total catastrophism and 4. alternative particular catastrophism. These models are then used to formulate the general definition of "catastrophism".

Na wstępie omówione jest pojęcie katastrofizmu jako czystej formy historiozoficznego pesymizmu finistycznego oraz jego relacja do idei kryzysu. Następnie wprowadzone są rozróżnienia w obrębie katastrofizmu pod względem zasięgu katastrofy (totalny bądź partykularny wymiar) oraz charakteru jej przebiegu (w sposób nieuchronny i nieodwracalny bądź jedynie hipotetyczny, alternatywny). Zestawienie tych dwóch ujęć katastrofizmu owocuje 4 wariantami myśli katastroficznej: 1. konsekwentnego katastrofizmu totalnego; 2. konsekwentnego katastrofizmu partykularnego; 3. alternatywnego katastrofizmu totalnego i 4. alternatywnego katastrofizmu partykularnego. Modele te są wykorzystane do sformułowania ogólnego określenia „katastrofizmu”.
