Specyfika Komunii św. na sposób Wiatyku polega na tym, że wierny chrześcijanin przyjmuje Go w najbardziej decydującym, a zarazem delikatnym momencie swojego życia, tzn. w chwili przejścia z tego świata do wieczności, a przynajmniej w bliskiej perspektywie tego momentu. Udzielanie i przyjmowanie Komunii św. jako Wiatyku jest jednym z najstarszych zwyczajów Kościoła. Wiatyk powinien przyjąć wierny znajdujący się z jakiejkolwiek przyczyny w niebezpieczeństwie śmierci. O wypełnienie tego obowiązku powinni zadbać przede wszystkim duszpasterze, ale także sam wierny oraz jego rodzina lub najbliżsi. W przypadku zaistnienia różnych wątpliwości duszpastersko-prawnych zawsze należy rozstrzygać na korzyść wiernego, zgodnie z zasadą, że najwyższym prawem jest zbawienie dusz.

The specificity of the Holy Communion in the way of Viaticum is receiving Him in the most decisive yet delicate moment of life, for example at the moment of passing from this world into eternity or at least in the short perspective of this moment. Giving and receiving Holy Communion as Viaticum is one of the oldest traditions of the Church. The faithful should receive Viaticum in any danger of death. Not only priests should take care of the fulfillment of this obligation, but also the faithful himself and his family and relatives. In the case of any pastoral and legal concerns the salvation of souls should be the most important so the problem should be always resolved in favour of the faithful.
