Trust in Educational Interactions in Higher Education Institutions: Examination as an Experience of Trust

The article presents the results of the research on one of the manifestations of trust in higher education institutions, namely the attitude of students to examination and test supervision executed by objective observers. The research was conducted in June 2013 and the specific question applied in the research tool was a real example from the academic life, which was discussed in the media. The context of the analysis is mass nature of higher education. The text presents statistics showing the scale and growth of academic enrolment rate in Poland in the last quarter-century. The analysis focuses on the consequences of the mass nature of higher education for the experience of trust in educational interactions, and precisely on the experience of trust during examinations. In this paper we present a small part of our research on culture of trust in educational interactions assisted by ICT.

Była to druga na przestrzeni ostatnich trzech lat konferencja poświęcona najnowszym trendom w systemach slawistycznej bibliograficznej oraz ich rozwojowi w przyszłości.

The Symposium etymologicum is a recurring international conference focusing on diachronic linguistics and especially etymology, a part of a series of etymological conferences organized under the auspices of the Etymological Commission of the International Committee of Slavists. Symposium z maja 2016 roku, poza celem merytorycznym, czyli wymianą poglądów między reprezentantami różnych ośrodków językoznawczych, miało również uczcić pamięć wybitnego slawisty i etymologa – członka rzeczywistego Komitetu Językoznawstwa PAN – prof. dr. hab. Tekst stanowi odpowiedź i wyraz sprzeciwu wobec, zaproponowanej przez profesora Piotra Nowaka, koncepcji ograniczonej dyskryminacji stosowanej na uniwersytecie. Autor wskazuje na potrzebą poszukiwania nowego paradygmatu tolerancji w kulturze życia akademickiego, na potrzebą decentracji interpersonalnej, którą uważa za pierwszy krok kreujący nowy paradygmat tolerancji. Decentracja interpersonalna ujmowana jest jako rozpatrywanie stosunków z innymi ludźmi, sytuacji i zjawisk, jednocześnie z różnych perspektyw, bez subiektywnej deformacji obrazu analizowanych zjawisk. W tekście postawiono szereg pytań, które stanowić mogą wartościowy przyczynek do autorefleksji dla każdego nauczyciela akademickiego, do określenie własnego miejsca i roli w tworzeniu paradygmatu tolerancji w kulturze życia akademickiego.

The text constitutes a response and expression of opposition to the concept of reduced discrimination applied at the university, proposed by Professor Piotr Nowak. The author points to the need to seek a new paradigm of tolerance in the culture of academic life, the need for interpersonal decentration, which he sees as the first step for creating a new paradigm of tolerance. Interpersonal decentration is treated as consideration of relations with other people, situations and phenomena, simultaneously from different perspectives, without the subjective deformation of the image of the analyzed phenomena. The text addresses a number of questions that may be valuable contributors to self-reflection for every academic teacher, to define their own place and role in creating a paradigm of tolerance in the culture of academic life.

We are certainly living in the age of growing isolation, atomization and dehumanization of various forms of human existence and activity. This generalization applies in equal measure to present academic life, and the process has been greatly accelerated by the disappearance of many traditionally rooted forms of university life, as well as detrimental effects of all-pervading Covid-19 epidemic, both on university teaching, but also on the process of popularization and exchange of scientific knowledge. In contrast to present point-hunting nature of academic life where success is measured by the number of vaguely-defined and subjectively granted points the figure of Professor Jacek Fisiak stands out as the symbol of multidirectional academic success in various socio-political systems in which he happened to be active, both in Poland and on the international academic scene.
