Professor Witold Mańczak authored many academic textbooks, mostly concerning Romance languages, but also a historical grammar of Polish. This textbook focuses on the interpretation of linguistic, phonetic and morphological changes and on their subordination to general laws of language. According to Professor Mańczak, laws apply to all or the majority of languages; regularities observed in a single language can be granted no higher status than that of rules. Mańczak viewed laws as residing on a very high level of generalization, and he believed their verifiability lies in statistical circumstances. He wrote that linguistic problems should be formulated in such a way that they can be solved using statistics; those that cannot be solved using statistics are not worth the consideration. He saw the development of linguistics as tied to the progress in electronics. Professor Mańczak was an individuality in Polish linguistics who did not follow the linguistic fashion; he was never a structuralist and all the more a cognitivist. But it transpires that he was also an individuality in academic teaching. This author inferred his stance by delving into the specificity of the textbooks he authored: an Italian, French, and Spanish textbook, but also historical grammars of French and Polish.

Rozpoczęty w 2002 roku projekt Wielkopolska Biblioteka Cyfrowa rozpoczął okres rozwoju bibliotek skupionych w Federacji Bibliotek Cyfrowych. O wielkości przedsięwzięcia świadczą imponujące zbiory zdigitalizowanego dziedzictwa narodowego, liczba bibliotek cyfrowych, wspólne narzędzie wyszukiwawcze oraz agregacja metadanych do obiegu światowego. Wiodącą rolę w procesie digitalizacji pełnią biblioteki naukowe polskich szkół wyższych. Od początku digitalizacji problemem dla bibliotek cyfrowych i repozytoriów były najnowsze publikacje naukowe i podręcznikowe. W artykule dokonano przeglądu zasobów najnowszych publikacji naukowych i dydaktycznych w zbiorach cyfrowych politechnicznych szkół wyższych, dostępnych w nieograniczonym dostępie Open Access. Wskazano, że pełna integracja działalności wydawniczej z biblioteką cyfrową, która realizowana jest w Politechnice Lubelskiej, to najbardziej skuteczne rozwiązanie w celu budowania kompletnych i w pełni dostępnych zasobów naukowych oraz dydaktycznych szkół wyższych.

Launched in 2002, the Digital Library of Wielkopolska project began a period of development of libraries united in the Digital Libraries Federation. The proof of the impressive size of the project is an imposing collection of digitized cultural heritage, the number of digital libraries, the common search tool, and aggregation of metadata into the global circulation. The leading role in the process of digitization is performed by academic libraries of Polish universities. Since the beginning of digitization the major problem for digital libraries and repositories have been most recent scientific publications and textbooks. This article reviews resources of recent scientific and didactic publications in the collections of digital polytechnic colleges, available in Open Access. It indicates that the full integration of the publishing activity and the digital library, which is implemented in the Lublin University of Technology, is the most effective solution to building complete and fully available scientific and teaching resources in higher education.
