The article will present changes in Polish palatability noticed by contemporary phonetics and phonologists (also against other Slavic languages). In addition, the results of the articulation and audit analysis on the implementation of Polish palatal consonants by the Slavs, in which the native phonological subsystems, palatability takes an extremely different place will be presented.

The paper presents research findings from research on Roma children and their acquisition of different grammatical categories in the Romani language. Results from three different studies with Roma children from Bulgaria are discussed: acquisition of mental state verbs (MSV), Bates-MacArthur Communicative Development Inventories (CDI) in Romani and subtests from DELV (Seymour, Roeper, & de Villiers, 2005). All the testing and research shows that Roma children follow the paths of normally developing children in their language development. Roma children are able to correctly use nouns, verbs, wh-questions and to assume different communicative roles.

At present there are many different forms and techniques of teaching and learning a language whose aim is to aid all the teacher’s activities s/he has planned while attempting to bring the language lessons as close to the authentic core of the language as possible that any teacher who really cares for the quality of his lessons can do whatever he only wants to incorporate the forces of authentic language contact to the classroom language behaviour of his/her pupils.

The aim of this paper was to verify if the goodwill (positive or negative) disclosed after a merger or acquisition is sensitive to manipulating the financial result in the acquiring company. Manipulating the result referred to the extent of cost allocation in short-term prepayments. Later we examined if the operational result achieved by the acquiring company (profit or loss) has an impact upon the revealed goodwill. The verification of the research hypotheses was performed with the use of statistical tools (linear regression analysis, nonlinear regression function test, normality of residual distribution test). As a result of the research, no significant relation between allocating costs and the disclosed negative goodwill was found, only in the case of positive goodwill its value was related to the allocating in assets costs. Neither positive nor negative goodwill was related to the operating results of the acquiring companies in one year preceding the merger or acquisition.

This paper focuses on the effect of prominence level and stress distribution on timing in read English speech of Polish learners. We have measured and analysed the length of IP units distinguished by the traditional British School prosodic description, i.e. preheads, heads and nuclei, as well as stress feet, further divided into stressed and unstressed syllables.A comparison of native and Polish learners' performance shows similar durations of stressed and pitch accented syllables. The unstressed syllables and syllable clusters, on the other hand, are significantly longer in non-native speech, and the discrepancies increase at lower phrasal prominence levels, especially in the preheads. Similar results for both groups have been obtained with respect to the number of consecutive unstressed syllables (foot complexity). The same test repeated after seven months of pronunciation training reveals a considerable tendency towards native speech timing, although the differences concerning low prominence levels remain significant.

Since the beginning of the twenty-first century, research methodology in the field of language learning and teaching has taken a narrative turn and, consequently, a growing number of empirical studies have employed narrative inquiry methods to investigate different facets of second language acquisition. Narrative inquiry in language teaching and learning research, a volume authored by Gary Barkhuizen, Phil Benson and Alice Chik, aims to provide a concise and practical introduction to different approaches to designing, implementing, analysing and reporting oral, written and multimodal narrative data in studies on second language learners and teachers. In this review I discuss the general relevance of narrative studies in the field and, after a brief summary of the six chapters, I offer a critical analysis of the book’s content.

Previous work has suggested that infants start producing multi-word utterances while they still produce single-word utterances, and they make generalizations about the order of constituents from early stages. This article describes the transition from one-word to multi-word utterances in an Italian child recorded every two weeks for 45 minutes from the age of 1;05 to the age of 2;05, and it examines specifically whether the child’s productions respect a head–complement generalization (in Italian, the generalization that heads precede complements). The analysis was conducted on files available in the Childes database. The study shows that one-word utterances are indeed not abandoned when the child learns to combine words, and the first two-word productions reflect adult utterances, whether or not these comply with the general ordering of heads and complements. These results are compatible with approaches that see first multi-word utterances as being syntactic, but they also show that the level of generalization is not fully compatible with predictions from experimental work on head-directionality (which predicts a wider generalization than the one observed in this child).

The norm of received pronunciation and its description in the codification does not have a long tradition. Beside short remarks in grammars, several short individual works were written since the mid-19th century but they were usually not generally accepted. Although 75 years ago, general guidelines for the codification of the pronunciation in Czech were proposed, followed by the first publication 60 years ago, its practical implementation was difficult. It should have an impact on public speech but the articulation mechanism is fixed naturally since childhood, and the defects are hard to remove without motivation. What is more, pronunciation instructions are presented in a written form, and it is necessary to express them with the user – a layman – in mind. Still, endeavours should be made to understand and to codify the pronunciation norms.

In the light of the ongoing debate on the maintenance of the restrictions regarding the acquisition of property by entities that are in accordance with the 24 March 1920 Acquisition of Real Estate by Foreigners Act (Dz.U. 2004, No. 167, Item 1758) it is useful to know the opinions of foreign entities who can assess the formal and legal conditions for acquisition of property in Poland. The experience in purchasing real estate by entities with foreign capital pursuant to the 24 March 1920 Act on the acquisition of property by foreigners may be prerequisite for the identification of difficulties in buying property by entities with foreign capital in Poland.

The Act of 14 April 2016 on Withholding the Sale of Properties in the State Treasury Resources of Agricultural Properties and on Amending Certain Statutes has introduced changes into the Polish legal system which significantly restrict trade in agricultural properties. These changes concern, inter alia, positive prescription of broadly understood agricultural properties. In accordance with the amended law, agricultural properties referred to in the provisions of the Act of 11 April 2003 on the Development of the Agricultural System may be acquired through positive prescription only by individual farmers in the meaning of this Act; furthermore, certain obligations have been imposed on the parties acquiring agricultural properties through positive prescription relating to their use of the properties they acquire, with far-reaching sanctions imposed thereupon. The law which has been introduced raises serious concerns, inter alia, at the level of its interpretation, including, in particular, in the context of the aims intended to be attained by the legislator by significantly and comprehensively restricting trade in agricultural properties.

Since the end of 1989 defence policy of the Czechoslovakia and after its dissolution in 1993 defence policy of the Czech Republic has been permanently adapted to the challenges of the new political reality and evolving strategic environment. Political reality reflected the revolutionary shift in political system aiming at the development of modern democratic state. Challenges coming out from the strategic environment could be characterised by its growing dynamics, complexity, unpredictability and uncertainty. This article highlights some of the remarkable achievements in this two and half decade lasting transitional endeavours and underscores some of the most important lessons learned related to defence policy formulation, defence strategy implementation, defence planning, defence resource management and acquisition.

Empirical research conducted over the past few decades suggests that the age at which an individual is first exposed to a second language affects long-term outcomes, in particular for phonology. The question that has occupied scholars of various bents is what, exactly, underlies the robust age effects observed. Does age imply immutable changes in one’s ability to ever sound native-like? Are these changes neurological, cognitive, or socio-psychological in nature? What role do L2 use and contact play? Do age-related influences apply to all individuals, or can language learners actually chart their own course when it comes to accent? This paper will outline basic assumptions of the critical period for phonology while suggesting a different approach to the age question that highlights the individual’s role in both process and outcome. Constructs such as L2 experience, motivation, self-concept, learning approach, and willingness to communicate are discussed in depth in order to show the fundamental connection between cognition and affect so critical for late phonological learning. A re-orientation of the age research is suggested as a result, to prioritize contextual understandings of language use and learner agency.

Instructed second language acquisition (ISLA) has been referenced in the larger field of the SLA literature for over two and a half decades. Currently, there are several theoretical underpinnings accounting for processes assumed to play a role in ISLA and quite an impressive number of studies have empirically addressed some aspect(s) of ISLA. Recently, a lengthy and relatively cohesive treatise of this substrand of SLA research in relation to both theoretical, empirical, and pedagogical perspectives has been published in two books (cf. Leow, 2015a; Loewen, 2015), and a new model of the L2 learning process in ISLA has been proposed (Leow, 2015a). These publications are timely and important given that the concept of ISLA not only needs to be clearly defined but also situated contextually. To this end, this article (a) revisits current definitions of ISLA in the SLA literature with the aim of identifying specific features of ISLA that underlie such definitions, (b) deconstructs ISLA by probing deeper into what comprises the termsinstructed andSLA in ISLA, (c) provides a brief summary of the cognitive processes and variables postulated by the theoretical underpinnings of ISLA and pertinent empirical research, (d) recommends that ISLA be observed from one curricular approach together with its empirical and pedagogical ramifications, and (e) provides some measure of direction future ISLA research may follow.

Z art.

According to the article 49 § 2 of the Civil Code, a person who incurred construction costs of installations and who is their owner, may demand that an entrepreneur who connected installations to his own network, acquires their ownership against an adequate remuneration. Character and content of this claim raise a lot of concerns. Court of Appeal in Szczecin passed a judgement on the 22nd of May 2013 r. in which stated that mentioned above claim does not have an unconditional character. However the Court of Appeal has not explained what does mean a term “unconditional”. This paper describes the point of view presented by the Court of Appeal with a comment.

The article investigates the use of pronouns to express subjects and objects in early acquisition of German as a foreign language. The main goal of the investigation is to shed some light on the process of development of information structure in the minds of young learners of a foreign language. The study investigates longitudinal data from children who were exposed to German in a school setting from the age of 7 or 9. The results of the empirical study show that children acquiring German in a school setting use a relatively high number of pronouns for subjects, but they rarely use pronouns to express objects. The pedagogical implication for developing an optimal outline for foreign language teaching in early childhood is the necessity to pay more attention to the development of pragmatic and discourse skills of children learning a foreign language.

Learning disabilities, often connected with reading disorders, present major challenges to the educational system. Specific reading disability is a persistent reading dysfunction. A person with a specific reading disability is unable to acquire reading skills disregarding sufficient intellectual and speech capabilities and normal speech and hearing analizator function in an optimal learning environment. New non-medication problem solutions are constantly searched for. Since modern technology and knowledge about alternative treatment of pathology such as tension-type headache that can cause learning difficulties and consequently, develop reading disorders, is constantly developing, the importance of the Biofeedback (BFB) method is increasing. The aim of the study was to determine the efficiency of BFB on children with migraine and learning disorders, including reading disorder.Theoretical methods: analysis of medical, psychological and pedagogical literature; empirical methods: testing with Task Force® Monitor device (CNSystems Medizintechnik AG), Analog Visual Scale, Biofeedback X-pert 2000, parametric statistic analyses, a complex evaluation of cognitive abilities was used to detect specific reading disorders. Five boys with migraine and learning disorders accompanied with dyslexia participated in this study, age 10 ± 0,5.The children took part in 12 BFB temperature sessions, resulting in a reduced frequency of migraine attacks from 7 - 1 times, 3,0 ± 2,3 times a month on average. No changes in migraine intensity were observed. Two participants stopped use of tranquilizers, that could be explained with a positive BFB effect on the autonomic nervous system. All participants showed a better academic performance and a trend of improved reading fluency at the end of the course. The acquired data and literature analysis show that the usage of BFB has a potential in migraine treatment in children, it increases the quality of life and reduces learning and reading disorders. An increase in efficiency is possible with the inclusion of relaxation training. To reduce reading and language disorders, a complex system of therapeutic methods, including BFB, coordination exercises of percussion instrument play, relaxation and cognitive training sessions should be developed.
