Territorial division and income affluence – analysis using two-level logit models

The aim of the paper was to assess differentiation of the occurrence of households’ income affluence in Poland between subregions. An analysis was conducted using two-level logit models without explanatory variables (null model) and with explanatory variables at household level (random intercept model and random slope model). The variables were related to the characteristics of the household and its head. The conducted analysis allowed to state that the occurrence of affluence is differentiated between subregions in the null model as well as in the model with explanatory variables.

Na samym szczycie piramidy społecznej sytuują się ludzie najbogatsi. W dziedzinie nauk społecznych (w szczególności ekonomia) nadal stosunkowo niewielki jest dorobek badawczy, na temat elit majątkowych. Empiryczne instrumentarium staje się nieprzydatne do badań, trudno bowiem dowiedzieć się od elit o ich finanse. Artykuł pokazuje badania tylko z jednej perspektywy, a mianowicie rezultaty obserwacji ludzi zamożnych przez różne grupy społeczne. Analiza dotyczy postrzegania bogactwa i ludzi bogatych, przekonań oraz reakcji Polaków na nierówności dochodów na przestrzeni ostatnich dekad.

At the top of the social pyramid there are situated the richest people. In the field of social sciences (in particular economics), there have still been relatively modest research achievements dealing with property elites. The empirical set of instruments becomes useless for research as it is difficult to learn anything about their finance from elites. The article shows research only from one perspective, namely the results of observation of wealthy people by various social groups. The analysis concerns perception of wealth and wealthy people, convictions and reactions of Poles to income inequalities over the recent decades.

The purpose of this paper was to analyse spatial diversity in the level of affluence of Polish citizens, with particular focus on: identifying the scale and permanence of these diversities, identifying general tendencies of their changes in the researched period, identifying the most important consequences resulting from the existing diversities regarding local development. The study covered all Polish cities. The time frame covered is from 2000 until 2009. In order to determine the level of affuence, the index of communes’ income from (participation in) personal income tax (PIT) was used and was compared to the national average income. The study revealed a high level of spatial diversity in the affuence of citizens. It was mainly connected with the dynamic economic developement of particular cities and had a relatively permanent character.

Celem pracy była analiza zróżnicowań przestrzennych poziomu zamożności mieszkańców miast, w  szczególności: określenie skali i  trwałości tych zróżnicowań, określenie zasadniczych tendencji ich zmian w badanym okresie, wskazanie najważniejszych konsekwencji istniejących zróżnicowań z punktu widzenia rozwoju lokalnego. badaniem objęto wszystkie miasta w Polsce. Horyzont czasowy pracy dotyczył lat 2000–2009. do określenia poziomu zamożności zastosowano wskaźnik dochodu gmin z tytułu udziału w podatkach od osób fizycznych (PIT) stanowiących dochód budżetu państwa, w relacji do średniej krajowej. badanie wykazało bardzo duży poziom zróżnicowania przestrzennego zamożności mieszkańców miast. Wiązał sie on przede wszystkim z dynamicznym rozwojem ekonomicznym poszczególnych jednostek i miał charakter względnie trwały.
