The aim of this article is to identify the importance of benchmarking as a source of innovation in the activities of tourism enterprises through the case study of LOT S.A. Polish Airlines. To expand, the objective was to identify the departments within the company which used benchmarking as a stimulus to create a new or improve an existing offer. The subject was an airline belonging to Star Alliance and 27 employees from selected departments. The study used questionnaires and. with managers of selected departments only, open standardized interviews. Statistical inference methods, including a chi-square test, were applied to analyse the data. Although the introduction of benchmarking in the company's structure allows for a quick escape route from a cycle of limitation in the company’s own culture and standard behaviour (and the acquisition of knowledge during the process gives rise to new and innovative ideas) the importance of this method in innovative activities did not result in any practical application. A lack of knowledge about benchmarking was noticeable, and an identification of this method with a simple competitive analysis resulted in failures in business activity as well as a lack of creativity in its application.

This study aims to evaluate service quality performance of major LCCs (Low Cost Carriers) in Europe by the MCDM (Multi-Criteria Decision Making) methodology. In addition it focuses on managerial business models and includes the international airline service providers that have applied the cost leadership strategy. In the study passenger reviews based on customer-rating systems are adopted as an alternative data source. For this purpose 24,971 passenger reviews, including 7 evaluation criteria, are analyzed. In this integrated methodology the Entropy method is used to weight the service quality criteria and the WASPAS method is used to rank the airlines. A sensitivity analysis is also applied and the robustness and stability of the application are confirmed. Consequently Jet2.com demonstrates the best service performance overall and legroom is the most important evaluation criterion.

Purpose: This study empirically investigated the factors that affect customer retention in the airline industry in North Cyprus. These factors were service quality attributes, perceived safety, customer satisfaction, loyalty reward program, relationship commitment and customer loyalty. The study also investigated four different groups for purposes of travel (business, education, vacation and family visit) in the empirical model. Methodology: A descriptive approach was chosen to conduct this research. A quanhip between customer retention and the related study factors; however, not all of these relations are signifcant. The results also showed that the different purposes of travel had different influences on the variables regarding the positive and signifcant relations between them. Some independent variables had a negative effect on the dependent variables. Conclusions: This research was limited to one group and place: the students of Eastern Mediterranean University in North Cyprus. Originality: This study connected the retention, loyalty, satisfaction and service quality factors as attributes. In addition, this research was the frst to include other independent factors affecting satisfaction and loyalty in a comparison between four different groups regarding the purpose of travel in the airline industry.

Polish air transport is an important component of both the European and global transport services market. Enterprises and institutions responsible for its development should be conducive to shaping the most competitive position of entities of the air transport market. In Polish airports and branch infrastructural investments, balanced and sustainable development should be taken into account, determining the level of quality of services provided and access to the market. These aspects are highlighted in the strategy for the development of regional airports, whose task is also to stimulate the mobility of people and their transport activities. Air transport, although it is a relatively young form of transport, the history of which goes back over a hundred years back, is nowadays a very important element of the global economy. In the last decades the air passenger transport was treated as an elite one. It has now become very common and has contributed to the mobility of people in many regions of the world. More and more often, not only global companies or corporations are talked about, but also referring to the ease of moving, taking up work or studying in different parts of the world, away from the home country, people choose most often the air transportation.

1 April 1918 was the day the first in history regular postal airline Vienna-Cracow-Lviv-Kiev- -Vienna was launched. The total flight time was 13 hours and the record flight took 11 hours. The route was divided into ca. 350-km-long stages and covering it with cargo was often very difficult, even dangerous. Still, it was that line which was the first regular postal airline in the world. The author has presented two unknown accounts found in the Österreichische Staatsarchiv – Kriegsarchiv Wien, by Captain Doctor August von Raft-Marwil and Major Tanner, describing that extraordinary courier airline which operated for seven months.

Motivation: The motivation to write an article on airlines was the desire to rank them based on customer reviews and see how these reviews reflect the actual brand image. The opinions that companies collect about themselves have a very strong power when it comes to building its reputation. Aim: The aim of the study was to use digital transformation and transform raw data into specific information that expressed customer emotions to create a profile of selected airlines. A secondary goal of the article was also to check how the analyzed airlines perform in similar areas. Materials and methods: The data used for the analysis was collected from the eSky.com website and covers the 2019-2020 period. The airlines concerned by the customer reviews were LOT, Ryanair, Wizzair, Czarter, EasyJet, Lufthansa and Laudamotion. Their selection was dictated by the number of opinions necessary to conduct the analysis. The research based on the use of data mining techniques, but it should be noted that most of it uses text mining tools. Topic modelling was used to prepare the data properly and assign each word to groups with similar themes. In order to obtain information whether a given opinion has a positive, negative or neutral tenor, sentiment analysis was used. The final part of the analysis was based on the net sentiment score indicator. The entire analysis was carried out in the R-Studio. Results: The most common subjects of opinions written by customers were "delay", "service", "boarding" and "airline". It was confirmed that the opinions of each airline concern different topics, although some common topics were noticeable. Two topics were repeated among the 7 analyzed airlines: "service" and "delay". Based on the sentiment analysis, for the Ryanair airline the percentage of negative opinions was highest and equal to 35%, almost 40%, of neutral opinions fell on the WizzAir airline and the largest percentage of positive feedback, as much as 46%, was attributed to EasyJet. EasyJet line looks the best in the eyes of customers. The line that evoked uniformly positive, negative and neutral emotions in the opinions was Ryanair.

Although learning is not a new phenomenon, the way of acquiring knowledge and time involved in it is of great importance for the development of each company. Therefore, more and more methods and practices are sought to satisfy those requirements, at the same time creating organizational culture that encourages employees to continually expand their knowledge. Benchlearning, which is most often associated with continuous learning from the best ones, is an example of such practice. Therefore, this paper attempts to answer the question whether benchlearning has an impact on the ‘value’ of human capital. The employees and the company which were selected for the study seem to be important and decisive for the outcome, because such a company as PLL LOT should be characterized by the constant search for ways to meet the ever-increasing market competition. It is also worth mentioning that the contents of this paper should be an introduction for two reasons. First, benchlearning does not belong to the most frequently undertaken issues in the literature, both in the theoretical and practical dimensions. Second, the results presented represent only a section of an extended issue which is the utilisation of benchmarking in the selected departments of PLL LOT. Nevertheless, due to the specific nature of the industry such as aviation, and its obstructed access, even because of the safety of airlines and their passengers all these make the results presented significant cognitively.

Basing on the theoretical assumptions of the functioning of the macroenvironment of the organization, with particular emphasis on its dimensions and its importance for the organization, the factors of change for the conduct of the airline's operations on the air service market during Covid-19 pandemic were identified, using case study as a leading research method. The system of relations among these factors and the shape of the action strategy was shown. The principles of the system functioning, consisting of an airline, an airport and a ground handling agent, were indicated. The significance of the crisis in the airline's operations for changes impacting other entities in this system of relations was specified. The implementation of the above-described shape of the research procedure made it possible to conduct ‘in action research’, i.e. the actual identification of the relation between macroenvironment and the strategy of operation and the assessment of the nature, scope and intensity of these relations, and, in the future, adaptation of activities to the changes taking place.

Wdrożenie opisanego kształtu procedury badawczej pozwoliło na prowadzenie badania „w działaniu”, tj. rzeczywiste zidentyfikowanie występowania relacji pomiędzy otoczeniem ogólnym a strategią działania i oszacowanie charakteru, zakresu i natężenia tych relacji, a w przyszłości dostosowanie działań do zachodzących zmian.
