Rozwój instytucji aniołów biznesu nastąpił wraz ze wzrostem młodych, innowacyjnych przedsięwzięć o dużym potencjale wzrostu. Brak dostępu do tradycyjnych form zewnętrznego finansowania działalności, wymusił poszukiwanie alternatywnych źródeł kapitału. Tego typu potrzeby spotkały się z odpowiedzią ze strony inwestorów indywidualnych, gotowych zainwestować własny kapitał oczekując w zamian ponadprzeciętnej stopy zwrotu z inwestycji. Aniołowie biznesu finansują przede wszystkim innowacyjne podmioty we wczesnych fazach rozwoju (pre-seed, seed, early stage i start-up). Wybierają branże o wysokiej dynamice wzrostu takie jak: technologie informacyjno-komunikacyjne, telefonia komórkowa, nowoczesne technologie, biotechnologie oraz usługi dla biznesu i finanse. Artykuł przedstawia istotę instytucji aniołów biznesu, wsparcie oferowane przez inwestorów indywidualnych oraz prezentuje ich działalność w Polsce.

The development of business angels institutions has occurred parallel to the growth of young, innovative projects with high increase potential. Looking for an alternative source of capital was a consequence of a lack of access to the traditional forms of external business financing. This type of demand met with the response of individual investors, ready to invest their own capital, expecting above-average return rate of investment. Business angels primarily finance innovative entities in seed and early stage of development (pre-seed, seed, early stage and start-up). They choose high-growth industries such as information and communication technologies, telecommunication, modern technologies, biotechnology, business services and finance. The article presents the essence of the institution of business angels, the support offered by individual investors and their activity in Poland
