The paper assesses the current state of theatre research concerning different aspects of music theatre. On the contrary to German theatrology, Czech attempts at this kind of research have been comparably sparse by now. This is, among other things, caused by the historical fact of overestimation of drama theatre over other theatre genres, such as music theatre, dance theatre, or puppet theatre. However, history of (not only European) theatre gives a number of examples of syncretism of spoken word, music, singing, even dancing in theatre. The author treats the methodology of musicological research of opera, naming several characteristics that differentiate music theatre from other theatre genres. In the end, the questions of opera performance analysis are outlined.

Cílem příspěvku je zhodnocení současného stavu v divadelně-vědném bádání o žánrech a jevech hudebního divadla. Na rozdíl od německé teatrologie jsou domácí pokusy vtáhnout tuto oblast do fokusu divadelní vědy stále sporadické. Jeden z důvodů přezíravosti české divadelní vědy vůči hudebnímu divadlu tkví v tradičním akcentu na mluvené divadlo, které je s příznačnou setrvačností považováno za samostatný druh divadla vedle divadla hudebního a tanečního, popř. loutkového. Historie divadla (a to i evropského) poskytuje bezpočet příkladů synkreze mluveného slova s hudbou, zpěvem či tancem. Autorka se vyjádří k muzikologickému výzkumu opery a pojmenuje některá specifika, jimiž se hudební divadlo liší od ostatních oblastí divadla. V závěru pak nastíní otázky analýzy operního představení.
