This diploma thesis extends the bachelor thesis research that analysed selected anoikonyms which were used by the locals since the oldest times until the beginning of the 19th century. The goal of this thesis is to revise and complete the set of anoikonyms included in the bachelor thesis and compare it to younger evidence. By collecting the data and its formal and semantic analysis the thesis aims to present a relatively complete picture of anoikonyms of the area of interest while respecting its historical development.

Any anoikonymy contains both traditional names, many of which are getting out of use, and names that have originated recently (living, i.e. currently in use). The aim of this contribution is to demonstrate their mutual relationships and on this basis formulate the conditions any anoikonym must comply with in order to keep a stable position within a particular anoikonymy. The material basis of this specific research is anoikonymy in the south of Moravia (a region in the Czech Republic). The research has proved that durability of each anoikonym depends on the way the named object is used in the outside world. If an object serves as an important point for orientation or if it is an object well known to the majority of inhabitants in its surroundings, the function of its name is to serve for orientation and it remains in the living anoikonymy until the situation changes. The validity of these conclusions is of general character, being in accordance with current research of living toponymy.

This essay summarises my thesis of the same name (Faculty of Education, Masaryk University, Brno 2015, 122 p.). The diploma work analyses contemporary repertoire of anoikonyms in the Židlochovice region, including their popular etymologies. The studied material was obtained by field research. The collected anoikonyms were sorted according to individual cadastral areas, number of words and actual named object. The findings were generalised in the model and structural analyses. It was found out that the familiarity and use of anoikonyms is decreasing, especially among the younger generation. The collected names mostly reflect the character of the terrain of the examined area and in many cases are influenced by German. The thesis is available at the internet address: .

The article in based on the author’s academic interest in dialectological vocabulary and proper names. The two sectors’ mutual influence is illustrated by means of examples from two locations: Hlohovec, a village on the East-Moravian and Austrian border, the name of which was presumably coined as a consequence of a false interpretation of its appellative basis (Hlohovec is probably not related to the appellative hloh ‘hawthorn’, but to the verb ležet ‘lay’), and Rácov in the Jihlava region of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands where the local appellative perished and an anoikonym was falsely understood and transformed into another one with a different motivation (M/močihuba – ‘heavy drinker’: MozciHuba : Mučí Huba : Mlčí Huba ‘mouth is quiet’ -> Tiché údolí ‘quiet valley’, Mlčící dolina ‘silent dale’).
