The article reinterpretes the morphological structure of a series of Old Polabian theonyms: *Svętovitъ, *Jarovitъ, *Rujevitъ, *Borovitъ. In the literature, they are quite unanimously considered to be nominal compounds with the element *vitъ ‘dominus, potens’ but this author shows, based on a distribution analysis of the formant *-(o/e)vitъ in the Slavonic languages, that they should be viewed as suffixal derivatives in *-ov-itъ (in the attributive-possessive function), and from the formal point of view, as nouns coined from adjectival bases. The paper concludes with the supposition that theonyms created using this formula were a dialectal innovation and were most likely limited to Old Polabian mythological nomenclature. Probably, they were substitute names and, being appellative epithets, they only became independent in the function of theonyms.

The article includes a linguistic analysis: semantic and formal (morphological and phonetic-graphic) of nearly 330 surnames of Russian origin and more than 370 Polish surnames, which have been formed on the basis of the Ukrainian, Belorussian and Russian root dub- and Polish dąb- // dęb- (“oak”), excerpted from Słownik nazwisk współcześnie w Polsce używanych (“The Dictionary of Surnames Contemporarily Used in Poland”) from the years 1992-1994. The analysis showed qualitative and quantitative similarities and differences between those two anthroponomasticons and their mutual interferences. They are especially visible in the process of Polonization of Russian surnames, set in a broader context of Polish enculturation of Russian residents in historical Poland. Semantic and formal richness of both anthroponymic families with the root dąb (“oak”) confirmed an important position of dąb in Russian languages as well as in Polish, reflecting the meaning of this tree in the economic and cultural life of man.

The surname Wałkuski is ambiguous. Its formal structure theoretically allows for the division Wałk-uski. Yet, this interpretation provokes some objections as the suffix -uski is a compound, the suffix –us / -uś / -usz is a linking and creates hipocoristic and diminutive forms, and the suffix -ski, creates (?) according to the model surnames pointing to places. The surname Wałkuski could have been created by the suffix -ski like surnames based on the names of places from a personal name Walkusz derived by the sufix -usz from Walek (Walenty) with a change of l to ł. Functions of the suffix –ski allow to link the etymology of the surname Wałkuski with Pomeranian territorial names such as Wołkusz, in the districts of Augustow and Sokolka, in Podlachia (Podlasie). The Pomeranian territorial names are etymologically linked to the personal name Walkusz, as hipocoristic from the name Walek – Walenty. The Pomeranian territorial names of the town Wołkusz may be etymologically lined to the personal name Wołkusz derived from the name Wołk as **vGkь, pol. wilk, east slov. wołk. Linking the name Wałkuski with the place names Walkusz or Wołkusz, assumes that the family of Wałkuscy (the Walkuski family) came to Mazovia (Mazowsze) and Łomża from Pomerania (Pomorze) or Podlachia (Podlasie).

The paper deals with lists of members of the Confraternity of the Rosary, functioning under the patronage of the Dominican monastery in Świdnica, from about 1530-1535. The analysis of their contents is supplemented with the edition of that source in the appendix. The lists provide important data for further research on the pastoral activities of the monastery in Świdnica and on antroponymy of inhabitants from the surroundings of Świdnica in late Middle Ages.

Artykuł dotyczy pochodzących z ok. 1530-1535 r. wykazów członków bractwa różańcowego, działającego pod patronatem klasztoru dominikanów w Świdnicy. Analiza zawartości tych rejestrów została uzupełniona edycją źródła zawartą w Aneksie. Wykazy te przynoszą istotne dane do badań nad działalnością duszpasterską świdnickiego konwentu oraz studiów nad antroponimią ludności zamieszkującej okolice Świdnicy w późnym średniowieczu.
