The article attempts to constitutional and political assessment, whether the President of Poland is a factor of stability in the Polish system of government. After a brief overview of the evolution of the institution head of state were presented constitutional assumptions, which can make the head of state arbitrator in political disputes. Then he described the outline of constitutional practices since 1997. According to the main thesis of the article President of the Republic Polen in the little acts as a stabilizing factor, because of its dependence on political parties, which reported his candidacy in the election.

Artykuł stanowi próbę konstytucyjnoprawnej i politologicznej analizy zagadnienia, czy i w jakim stopniu uznać można Prezydenta RP za czynnik stabilizujący polski system ustrojowy. Po krótkim zarysie ewolucji instytucji głowy państwa przedstawiono rozwiązania konstytucyjne, które mogą czynić z głowy państwa arbitra w sporach politycznych, przez co może on je „łagodzić”. Następnie przedstawiono zarys praktyki ustrojowej. W myśl głównej tezy artykułu Prezydent RP w niewielkim stopniu działa jako czynnik stabilizujący z uwagi na swoją daleko idącą zależność od partii politycznych, które zgłosiły jego kandydaturę w wyborach.
