A partir del desarrollo, sin parangón, del crimen organizado transnacional como la principal amenaza a la seguridad nacional de México, se intenta reflexionar sobre el poder naval y la misión ad hoc de las armadas, como contribución de este componente del poder nacional al combate de dicho flagelo; al tiempo que se retoma el debate sobre los paradigmas de las armadas vigentes en América Latina y las recientes adaptaciones de las capacidades del poder naval mexicano frente a los retos de una delincuencia organizada que no respeta fronteras ni soberanía nacionales

Due to the unequaled development of the transnational organized crime as the main danger to the national security of Mexico, there are some efforts to consider the naval power and the ad hoc mission of the navy as a contribution of this component of national power to combat this scourge; at the same time the debate on the paradigms of the naval forces in Latin America and recent adaptations of Mexican naval capabilities in order to face the challenges of organized crime that does not respect borders or national sovereignty is undertaken
