Concern for the State of Development of Higher Auditory Functions in Children – a Proposal for Screening Diagnoses Based on the APD Medical Platform

The paper presents the results of the assessment of auditory functions in a group of fifty-nine children aged seven to ten. The tests were conducted on the diagnostic-therapeutic APD Medical platform, which enables carrying out the following tests: visual and auditory reaction test, adaptive one-syllable test for speech comprehension in noise, frequency pattern test (FPT), temporal resolution and auditory perception test (Gap Detection Threshold), adaptive frequency resolution test (DLF), and digital dichotic test (DDT). The participants were qualified for diagnosis on the basis of audiometric tests and surveys. The obtained results were compared with the values of normative higher auditory functions tests of the diagnostic-therapeutic APD Medical platform.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki oceny funkcji słuchowych w grupie pięćdziesięciorga dziewięciorga w wieku 7–10 lat. Badania przeprowadzono na platformie diagnostyczno-terapeutycznej APD Medical, która umożliwia wykonanie: testu reakcji słuchowej i wzrokowej, adaptacyjnego, jednosylabowego testu rozumienia mowy w szumie, testu sekwencji częstotliwości, adaptacyjnego testu rozdzielczości czasowej układu słuchowego, adaptacyjnego testu rozdzielczości częstotliwościowej oraz rozdzielnousznego testu liczbowego. Uczestnicy zostali zakwalifikowani do diagnozy na podstawie badań audiometrycznych i ankietowych. Uzyskane wyniki zestawiono z wartościami normatywnymi testów wyższych funkcji słuchowych platformy diagnostyczno-terapeutycznej APD Medical.

Difficulties in linguistic communication and cognitive functioning of children, adolescents and adults often result from incorrect processing of auditory stimulus. Nowadays, we can support people with auditory processing disorders by performing properly selected exercises for auditory functions, including auditory training. There are over a dozen auditory trainings available in Poland, e.g. the Tomatis method, the Warnke method, Neuroflow, and the Johansen method of Individualised Auditory Stimulation (JIAS). The article presents a description of the therapy of a thirteen-year-old girl with hearing difficulties administered according to the guidelines of the Johansen Individualised Auditory Stimulation (JIAS) and the results obtained after the therapy.

Trudności w komunikacji językowej oraz funkcjonowaniu poznawczym dzieci, młodzieży i dorosłych często wynikają z nieprawidłowego przetwarzania bodźców słuchowych. Współcześnie możemy wspomóc osoby z zaburzeniami przetwarzania słuchowego, zalecając odpowiednio dobrane ćwiczenia funkcji słuchowych, w tym treningi słuchowe. W Polsce dostępnych jest kilkanaście treningów słuchowych, np. metoda Tomatisa, metoda Warnkego, Neuroflow, metoda Indywidualnej Stymulacji Słuchu Johansena (JIAS). W artykule przedstawiono terapię trzynastoletniej dziewczyny z trudnościami słuchowymi według wytycznych Metody Indywidualnej Stymulacji Słuchu Johansena (JIAS) oraz uzyskane rezultaty po zakończeniu terapii.

The article presents a case study of a 65‑year‑old woman with age‑related hearing loss and auditory processing disorders. The results of diagnosis and training of auditory, visual and motor functions using the assumptions of the Warnke method are discussed. A positive influence of the auditory training using the Warnke method on the linguistic functioning of the patient was demonstrated.

W artykule przedstawiono opis przypadku 65‑letniej kobiety z głuchotą starczą oraz trudnościami w przetwarzaniu słuchowym. Omówiono wyniki diagnozy i treningu funkcji słuchowych, wzrokowych i motorycznych przy zastosowaniu założeń metody Warnkego. Wykazano pozytywny wpływ treningu słuchowego metodą Warnkego na funkcjonowanie językowe pacjentki.
