Podatek od gier regulowany jest przez ustawę z dnia 19 listopada o grach hazardowych. Podatnikami są osoby organizujące gry objęte monopolem państwa a stawki opodatkowania danej gry są ściśle określone w ustawie o grach hazardowych. Dochód prowadzących loterie lub liczba całkowitych kwot uzyskanych ze sprzedaży losów stanowi podstawę opodatkowania tym świadczeniem. Świadczenie jest na tyle popularne, że gdy w momencie zawarcia zakładu, czy to bukmacherskiego czy lotto, w jego cenie mamy już wliczoną stawkę podatku. Stawka (dopłata do żetonu) jest na tyle celowa, że suma kwot wszystkich dopłat zostaje przeznaczona na określone fundusze. Człowiek zawsze inwestował tak aby osiągnąć zwrot z przedsięwzięcia.
