The article aims to analyze the problem of travel writing, define its typology and discuss the outcomes of travelling as they are unfolded in the first phase of Elvira Dones’s migrant writings. It addressess three phenomena: travelling to Denmark, travelling to Sweden and travelling to Italy, outlining the influence of space on the lives of the characters. The theoretical foundation derives from research by T.W. Adorno, G. Bataille, E. Grosz, S. Hurn, I. Illich, M. Marzano, S. Mezzadra, M. Midgley, M.C. Nussbaum and P. Ricoeur.

The representation of autism in literature is a novelty of a delicate sense for what impact it can have on readers. Autism shows more frequently in the lines ofYoung-Adult fiction (YA), a genre known for its large audiences, which makes contemplating the image of an autistic person, as an actual character or a theme, either a means of access or a block to public awareness of the spectrum, respectively. The selected YA fiction works for this paper are Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, as screenplay (2018) and book (2001). The screenplay is not an adaptation of the book, but a background to the times when a character wrote his study book on the beasts that surrounds his environment. In the works, the use of terms like “monster” and “beast” seems to refer to a dehumanised image of the represented, which raises questions on why the writer would allude readers to relate autism to monstrosity; is she maintaining the habit of using illness as a narrative thematic tool or does she suggest otherwise? In order to formulate a ground for these inquiries, we will visit the text in relation to Lacan and Derrida’s thoughts on “Subjectivity” and how it defines fellowship from alterity and monstrosity. The objective of this research is to investigate the representation of autism in Rowling’s screenplay while backing up with examples from the book to see how far it meets the real or contrastingly contributes to reinforcing another stereotypical other.

Convicted of dangerous (status “N”): 1) Subjective criteria. The embedded person is identified as a “N”, whose behawior at the offence, personal conditions, the type and size of the negative consequences of crime, motivations, the way of proceeding during the stay in prison, the degree of demoralization carry important social threat or serious danger to the plant. 2) Subject criteria, referring to the type of crime committed by the embedded person (crime with particular cruelty or use of firearms). The list of offenses is open. The status “N” can also be obtained for especially reprehensible behavior during previous imprisonment. The list of offenses is closed (he was the perpetrator of rape, grievous bodily harm, or abused inmates).

The paper examines numerous references to tradition of Antiquity in Henry James’ novella “The Beast in the Jungle” and draws attention to their binary nature. The binary pairs which most of the references seem to form are based on the simple opposition between reality and illusion. The story depicts the life of John Marcher, who believes himself to be destined to experience an event which will transform his life dramatically. The main protagonist is waiting for the arrival of the beast. The allusions to particular ancient texts, beliefs and architecture help to define the nature of John Marcher’s problem, by highlighting his tragic situation, the conflict within him, as well as the stagnation which characterizes his existence. The majority of the references can be joined into pairs within which one reference indicates how the protagonist falsely perceives himself while the opposing one suggests the real condition which he is not aware of. More-over, the references offer a greater understanding of the role of the second character of the novella, May Bartram, in Marcher’s life. The parallel between May and the mythical Ariadne, for instance, enables us to predict the fate of Miss Bartram in the story. The references in question are presented in the article, while their functions are thoroughly examined.

Le présent article analyse les nombreuses références à la tradition de l’Antiquité dans la nouvelle « La Bête dans la jungle » d’Henry James et il tire l’attention du lecteur sur leur caractère binaire. Les paires binaires que la plupart des références semblent former sont basées sur la simple opposition entre la réalité et l’illusion. Le récit présente la vie de John Marcher, qui se croit destiné à vivre un événement qui transformera sa vie de manière dramatique. Le héros principal attend la venue de la bête. Les allusions à certains textes antiques, à certaines croyances et à certaine architecture aident à définir la nature du problème de John Marcher, en soulignant sa situation tragique, son conflit intérieur et la stagnation qui caractérise son existence. La majorité des références peuvent être mises en paires dans lesquelles une référence indique la façon dont le héros se perçoit à tort et l’autre suggère sa condition réelle dont il n’est pas conscient. De plus, les références permettent de mieux comprendre le rôle du second personnage dans la nouvelle, May Bartram, dans la vie de Marcher. La parallèle entre May et l’Ariane mythique, par exemple, nous permet de prédire le destin de Miss Bartram dans le récit. Les références en question sont présentées dans l’article et leurs fonctions sont examinées en détail.
