Utwór Borysa Mikulicza jest narracją o konfrontacji osobowości twórczej z dominującym systemem ideologicznym o jej prawo być artystą. „Opowieść dla siebie” jest napisana w formie pamiętnika, zawiera zapisy z lat 1946–1948. W tym czasie pisarz, wróciwszy z zesłania, próbował „powrócić do literatury”. Uważne czytanie pamiętnika dostarcza ciekawego materiału do charakterystyki życia literackiego w okresie powojennym na Białorusi.

Boris Mikulič’s work is the story of an unequal battle of the creative person against dominant ideological system for the right to be an artist. The book, written in the form of a diary, contains entries made in 1946–1948. At this time the writer was released from exile and made attempts “to return in literature”. Close reading of the diary provides a significant material for characterization of the literary life in post-wor period.
