Security is generally considered as a fundamental value, so its assurance is a priority for both the state and individuals. One of the factors affecting security more and more are demographic changes that are taking place in the modern world. Never before has demography had such a stigma on the safety of the state which is proved by separating the area of state demographic security in the science theory. The article attempts to define the concept of national security and the demographic security of the state and to determine the correlation of those two concepts, as well as answers to the question whether the demographic security as a new area of research is a permanent trend or a temporary necessity. The following shows the demographic situation of Poland and its prognosis for the year 2050. The topic is very extensive and the article only outlines the problem.

Bezpieczeństwo jest powszechnie uznawane za funadementalną wartość, dlatego jego zapewnienie stanowi zadanie priorytetowe zarówno dla państwa, jak i jednostek. Jednym z czynników, wpływających coraz silniej na bezpieczeństwo, są przemiany demograficzne, które zachodzą we współczesnym świecie. Nigdy dotąd demografia nie odciskała takiego piętna na bezpieczeństwie państwa, czego dowodem jest wyodrębnianie się w teorii naukobszaru bezpieczeństwa demograficznego państwa. W artykule podjęto próbę zdefiniowania pojęcia bezpieczeństwa państwa i bezpieczeństwa demograficznego państwa oraz określenia korelacji tych dwóch pojęć, a także odpowiedzi na pytanie czy bezpieczeństwo demograficzne jako nowy obszar badań to trwały trend, czy chwilowa konieczność. W dalszej części przedstawiono sytuację demograficzną Polski oraz jej prognozę do roku 2050. Temat zagadnienia jest obszerny, w artykule dokonano jedynie zarysu problemu.

Procesy demograficznego starzenia się i depopulacji zapowiadają spadek znaczenia gospodarczego i politycznego Europy, oraz zmiany układu sił w obrębie regionu. Celem artykułu jest dokonanie analizy wpływu spodziewanych zmian demograficznych na ewolucję układu sił w Europie w XXI wieku i identyfikacja nowej konfiguracji układu sił pod koniec stulecia. Zaprezentowane są scenariusze zmian w liczebności i strukturze wieku populacji krajów europejskich oraz kluczowych uczestników systemu międzynarodowego. Na tej podstawie artykuł zarysowuje scenariusze zmiany regionalnego układu sił do końca XXI wieku. Przyjmując podejście niedeterministyczne artykuł zarysowuje perspektywy działań politycznych dla zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa demograficznego z punktu widzenia najbardziej zagrożonych krajów Europy Wschodniej i Południowej

Population size and structure belong to essential factors impacting power of a country. The expected decline in population size and aging suggest that the marginalisation of the influence of Europe on world affairs may continue, and the unevenness of demographic change among European countries may lead to the new balance of power on the continent itself. The goal of the article is the analysis of impact of the projected demographic changes on the evolution of the balance of power in Europe in the 21st century and the identification of the new balance of power by the end of the century. The article provides overview of methodology of development of demographic projections, based on an approach of the United Nations Population Division. The article presents different scenarios for changes in population size of the World and Europe in 2100, based on different assumptions of the UN Population Division’s population projections. Further the article provides scenarios for changes in population size and age structure of European countries and major powers in the international system. Based on that the article outlines scenarios of change in the regional balance of power by the end of the 21st century and identifies countries with rising power status, that include United Kingdom and France, and countries with declining status, including Germany and Poland. Adopting nondeterministic approach the article finally outlines framework for policy action to provide demographic security, from the perspective of the countries of Eastern and Southern Europe, which are expected to be affected most by demographic change.

Zjawiska demograficzne mają silny wpływ na rozwój społeczno-gospodarczy województwa dolnośląskiego. Szczególne znaczenie mają liczba i struktura ludności oraz poziom przyrostu rzeczywistego. Celem artykułu było przedstawienie zmian liczby ludności wpływających na poziom bezpieczeństwa demograficznego badanej jednostki na tle zmian zachodzących w kraju w latach 2010–2018. W celu uchwycenia podobieństw i różnic w strukturach przestrzennych posłużono się typologią demograficzną Webba oraz zastosowano trójkąta Osanna. Zastosowane metody pozwoliły na określenie typu demograficznego województwa dolnośląskiego oraz przyczyn pogłębienia się problemów demograficznych tego regionu, co będzie wpływało negatywnie na podaż pracy i możliwości dalszego rozwoju województwa.

Demographic phenomena have a major impact on the socio-economic development of Dolnośląskie Voivodeship. The number and structure of the population and the level of the actual increase are of special importance. The objective of this article was to show population changes affecting the level of demographic safety in a given unit against the changes taking place in Poland in the years 2010–2018. The demographic typology by Webb and Osanna triangle was used to capture the similarities and differences in the spatial structure. The methods used allowed to determine the demographic type of Dolnośląskie Voivodship and the reasons for the deepening demographic problems of the region, which will have a negative impact on the labor supply and opportunities for further development of the voivodship.
