Franciszek Walenty Ruthen (1674–1734) has his place in the history of Kashubia and Pomerania, especially Wejherowo. He was an eminent parish priest, who amassed a large private library collection (107 books have survived to this day and are kept in the Library of the Pelplin Seminary, the Kórnik Library of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Gdańsk Library of the Polish Academy of sciences). The contents of the collection refl ect Ruthen’s education, profession as well as his private interests and ambitions. Ruthen collected books that were useful in his pastoral work, in expanding his theological and historical knowledge as well as general erudition. He supplemented his collection with excerpts from various works, his own translations of religious texts, and, following the example of his predecessors in the parish of Wejherowo, texts supporting the development of the local Calvary cult.
Poruszono ponadto kwestię współpracy z innymi instytucjami (m.in. Federacją Bibliotek Kościelnych FIDES), mającej nieoceniony wpływ na rozwój i funkcjonowanie placówki na wielu płaszczyznach.

This article aims to present the activities of the Library of the Faculty of Theology of the University of Szczecin and the changes that occurred over its existence – from the small seminar library to a university library numbering more than one hundred thousand volumes. Moreover, there is issue of cooperation with other institutions (among others. Federation of Church Libraries FIDES) having an inestimable influence on the development and functioning of institutions on many levels.
In its beginnings (16th–18th centuries), the Bibliography of the history of the Church in Poland was formed within the framework of general, historical and theological compilations. When more extensive lists of works on the history of the Polish Church appeared in the first half of the 19th century, they constituted parts of literary and historical bibliographies. In the second half of the 19th century, bibliography of Church history in Poland was present within historical bibliography. The independence of the bibliography of Church history in Poland occurred as late as in the second half of the 20th century. It was inspired by Father Hieronim E. Wyczawski, a professor of theological sciences and Church historian, and an employee of the Academy of Catholic Theology. For the purposes of the projected retrospective and current bibliography of the history of the Church in Poland, he developed a detailed instruction on the method of its compilation. In 1977, volume one of the Bibliography of the History of the Church in Poland for 1944–1970 (in three parts) was published, prepared under his direction. Five more volumes covering the period 1971–1984 were published between 1977 and 1997. Their authors were Rev. Franciszek Stopniak, Rev. Marian Banaszak, Ryszard Żmuda and Piotr Latawiec. The Bibliography of the History of the Church in Poland takes into account not only the history of the Church in the strict sense, but also the history of church art, the history of theological sciences and the history of liturgy and worship. In addition to works on the history of the Catholic Church, it encompasses also those on the history of other Christian Churches operating in Poland. It follows a chronological and factual order, except for the volumes for 1971–1972 and 1973–1974, in alphabetical arrangement. The printed version of the Bibliography for 1944–1984 has been converted to electronic form and is available on the server of the Library of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University. Currently, the maintenance of this database is not being continued, so the content in it is not being supplemented. In addition, the Bibliography has been digitized and is available in the FIDES Virtual Book Collection of the Federation of Church Libraries.

Bibliografia historii Kościoła w Polsce w swych początkach (wiek XVI-XVIII) formowała się w ramach zestawień ogólnych, historycznych i teologicznych. W pierwszej połowie XIX wieku, kiedy pojawiały się już obszerniejsze wykazy piśmiennictwa dotyczącego dziejów Kościoła polskiego, stanowiły one część bibliografii historycznoliterackich. W drugiej połowie XIX wieku bibliografia historii Kościoła w Polsce występowała w obrębie bibliografii historycznej. Usamodzielnienie się bibliografii historii Kościoła w Polsce nastąpiło późno, bo dopiero w drugiej połowie XX wieku. Jej inspiratorem był o. Hieronim E. Wyczawski, profesor nauk teologicznych i historyk Kościoła, pracownik Akademii Teologii Katolickiej. Na potrzeby projektowanej, retrospektywnej i bieżącej, bibliografii historii Kościoła w Polsce opracował on szczegółową instrukcję dotyczącą metody jej opracowania. Franciszek Stopniak, ks. Marian Banaszak, Ryszard Żmuda i Piotr Latawiec.
This article outlines the origins of the Federation of Church Libraries FIDES with particular emphasis on the purpose for which it was created, i.e. the computerization of libraries and bibliographic information. Then the work presents the implementation of the main objective of the federation within 25 years of its existence. Finally, it focuses on the current state of work on the computerization of church library catalogues in Poland.
Acquired by the bishop of Chełmno, Mikołaj Chrapicki (who died in 1514), the copy of Gutenberg Bible was handed over by the hierarch to the library of the Franciscans-Bernardines in episcopal city of Lubawa. After the dissolution in year 1821 the masterpiece of the printer from Mainz became the property of the Library of Divinity School in Pelplin, where – as the only copy in Poland – at the end of the 19th century it was adequately exhibited. In the inter-war period – although the selling of the Bible was considered – its ideological popularizer and protector was, among others, the bishop of Chełmno, Stanisław Wojciech Okoniewski, but above all, the priest dr Antonie Liedtke, the director of the library in Pelplin. It was he who dedicated several papers to the “Polish” copy of Gutenberg Bible and just before the war – risking his life – he rescued the Bible from German robbery. e route of its evacuation led from Pelplin, through Warsaw (the treasury of the National Economy Bank), Romania, France, Great Britain to Canada, where it was deposited in the branch of the Bank of Montreal in Ottawa. Although there were some problems with getting it back after the war, the Gutenberg Bible returned to Pelplin and until this day it is a real pearl of the collections of seminar library.
