The purposes of the present study were to explore the relationship between body awareness and negative body attitude, interoceptive body awareness and physical self in women practicing fitness as well as to analyze the determinants of body awareness. The Body Awareness Questionnaire, the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness, the Physical Self-Description Questionnaire and the Body Attitude Test were applied to 43 women practicing fitness and 32 non-fitness practitioners. Bodily self-awareness was connected with greater fitness practitioners’ interoceptive body awareness and greater physical self. Noticing and global esteem predicted body awareness in women practicing fitness.

Background. Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder consisting in weight loss caused intentionally by the patient. The condition mainly occurs in adolescent girls. Its core feature is body image disturbances which lead to psychopathological symptoms manifested as intrusive thoughts about weight gain. Material and methods. The aim of the study was to examine body image in the group of 17 girls suffering from anorexia nervosa treated in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Wroclaw. The average age of the sample was 15 years. Body image was analyzed using the self-assessment Body-Esteem Scale (based on Franzoi and Shields, 1984) and a questionnaire (developed by the authors) concerning the patient’s subjective assessment of the size and shape of their body, feelings and thoughts in relation to their own body, satisfaction with their appearance and whether they had any authorities. Results. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the data. Most of the girls expressed a negative attitude to their own bodies and assessed the size of their silhouettes as much larger than they really are. Noted decreased satisfaction with the appearance of particular parts of the body such as the abdomen, buttocks, thighs while the respondents generally expressed a positive attitude to the appearance of their face. Conclusions. The study confirmed distorted body image in girls suffering from anorexia. The vast majority of respondents perceived their bodies bigger than they were, expressed a negative attitude to it and were not pleased with their body weight.

Artykuł jest próbą odpowiedzi na pytanie, czym jest teatr tańca i jaką rolę odgrywa w terapii. W pierwszej części przedstawiona jest geneza oraz defi nicja teatru tańca, kolejno jego związki z terapeutyką oraz założenia terapii, a także przykłady leczniczego zastosowania ruchu scenicznego. Artykuł prowadzi do konkluzji, że teatr tańca, jako uniwersalny język umożliwiający mówienie o uczuciach i wewnętrznych konfl iktach, jest alternatywną metodą pracy z ludzkim ciałem i psychiką, szczególnie istotną w dobie narastających problemów w komunikacji intra- i interpsychicznej.

This article attempts to answer the question, what is dance theater and its role in therapy. In the Þ rst part the article shows the genesis and deÞ nition of dance theater, turns to its relationships with therapeutics and foundation of therapy, as well as examples of the therapeutic use of stage movement. The article leads to the conclusion that the dance theater, is a universal language that allows us to talk about feelings and inner conflicts, is an alternative method of working with the human body and psyche and it’s important as a factor in increasing problems in intra- and interpersonal communication.

Zaprezentowane w artykule przemyślenia dotyczą problemu cielesności jako narzędzia inkluzji. Instalacja performatywna „Ciało” Izabeli Chlewińskiej jest przykładem sztuki przybliżającej znaczenie pracy nad pogłębieniem świadomości ciała. W tekście poruszone są aspekty pracy z ciałem, dążące do włączania dziecka w świat doznań sensorycznych, świat mu bliski i potrzebny. Świat zmysłów i ruchu, który jest warunkiem prawidłowego rozwoju. Dotyczy to również pracy z cielesnością dzieci ze spektrum autyzmu. Za pomocą swobodnej ekspresji, działań pobudzających kreatywność, dzieci podczas wystawy pozostają w satysfakcjonującym „przepływie”, czyli zgodności działań z ich indywidualnymi wewnętrznymi potrzebami.

The ideas presented in this article elaborate on an issue of the body, which plays the role of a tool that enables inclusion. Izabela Chlewinska’s performative installation Body constitutes an example of art, whose role is to emphasize the importance of improving body awareness. In the article, methods of working with the body are described, the aim of which is to introduce a child to the world of sensory sensations-the world which is close and necessary for a child. The world of sensory sensations and movement is the basis for proper personal development. The article discusses working with children with autism spectrum disorders. Through free expression and actions aimed at boosting creativity, children who participate in the performative installation remain in a pleasant flow state, during which their actions are consistent with their individual internal needs.
