Professor Janusz Dunin-Horakiewicz (1931–2007) – a humanist, bibliologist, academic lecturer, bibliophile. He studied the development of the forms of children books and their structural differentiation, he analyzed the language of signs allowing to read not only in a book, but also a book itself as an object filled with meaning; his signature method of conducting research was the structural – typological identification of the publications and their purpose. The path-clearing character of Dunin’s works, his search for methods and ways to articulate bibliological knowledge pointed him towards interdisciplinarity. The scholar often used his bibliophile knowledge and underlined that among the old children books the important ones are those which survived within the collections, becoming the important element of the culture, even if they don’t possess any artistic value. Professor Dunin was one of the most important book historians and theoreticians in Poland, and his works deserves to be analyzed and interpreted by modern day researchers.

The aim of the article is to present textbooks and teaching aids offered by the Lviv companies in the years 1919–1939. The statistical analysis shows that Lviv was an important publishing center which realized the educational policy of the Second Republic of Poland. School literature was primarily published by four companies: Książnica Atlas, Wydawnictwo Zakładu Narodowego im. Ossolińskich, Państwowe Wydawnictwo Książek Szkolnych, and Księgarnia Nakładowa K.S. Jakubowskiego. Textbooks were also published, on a lesser scale, by other Lviv publishers. In the analyzed period, published were 1629 textbooks addressed to the mainstream and secondary schools, schools of general education and trade schools, as well as teacher seminars and higher schools. The publishing houses in Lviv also offered about 120 methodical books intended for teachers. The number of titles, their quality and editions allow to state that Lviv was the second, after Warsaw, center of publishing school literature in Poland

The Lexicon of Verrius Flaccus (De verborum significatu) is the first Latin dictionary which included a lot of information about the history, society, religion and topography of Rome. Unfortunately, it is only known in fragments and abridgments. The epitome of this lexicon was created by Pompeius Festus, who probably lived in the second century. His work now exists only in fragments within a single manuscript, the Codex Farnesianus. We can reconstruct this text thanks to Paul the Deacon who also abridged the work of Festus for Charlemagne. Over the years, many editions of the text have been created which consisted of the work of Festus and the epitome of Paul. Today, we have few critical editions and comments on the text. This Lexicon is an amazing source of information and is of great importance to scholars of antiquity.

The article’s objective is to trace the activity of the Baworowscy Library, basing on entries in a “Cash Journal”, in which the Library’s expenses were being noted. This manuscript, created mostly in the 20 th century, constitutes an interesting source of information about the Library’s functioning, since a number of expenses which shed a new light on the Library’s work have been included there. Moreover, the analysis and juxtaposition of certain data brings information about the cooperation between the Library and its closest surrounding. Data from the manuscript described allows us to outline a network of trade links between the Baworovianum and booksellers and antiquaries from Poland and Western Europe. The text also describes other companies (e.g. binderies) and institutions (e.g. learned societies), as well as people, who throughout the years have appeared on the Journal’s pages as Library’s cooperators. Information included in this document are a trigger to the history of book culture in 19 th and 20 th century Lviv.
