Idea praw dziecka nie jest nowa. Przez cały XX wiek na arenie międzynarodowej podejmowano różne inicjatywy prawne, promujące prawa dziecka. Za ich zwieńczenie można uznać przyjęcie w 1989 r. Konwencji o prawach dziecka. Chociaż Konwencja dotyczy relacji państwo–dziecko, to wśród organizacji pozarządowych działających na rzecz dzieci od lat toczy się dyskusja, jak organizacje mogą wspomóc promocję i realizację praw dziecka. Niniejszy artykuł nawiązuje do tej dyskusji i podejmuje próbę operacjonalizacji postanowień Konwencji, by ułatwić ich wdrożenie na poziomie poszczególnych instytucji i organizacji działających na rzecz dzieci. Autorki opierają się na sześciu zasadach wywodzących się z Konwencji: 1. Podejście oparte na prawach dziecka, 2. Partycypacja dzieci, 3. Brak dyskryminacji, 4. Najlepiej pojęty interes dzieci, 5. Wzmacnianie potencjału, 6. Po pierwsze nie szkodzić.

The idea of children’s rights is not new. Throughout the 20th century, various legal initiatives were launched on the international scene, promoting the rights of the child. The adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989 can be considered as a final step. Although the Convention is about state-child relations, NGOs working on behalf of children have been discussing how organizations can help promote and realize the rights of children. This article is a reference to this discussion and attempts to operationalize the provisions of the Convention to facilitate their implementation at the level of individual institutions and organizations working for children. The authors base themselves on the 6 principles derived from the Convention: 1. Approach based on the rights of the child, 2. Participation of children, 3. No discrimination, 4. Child’s best interest, 5. Building on strengths 6. Do not harm.
