Designers have become aware of the importance of creatig strong emotinal experiences intertwined with new tangible products for the past decade, however an increased interest from firms has emerged in developing new service and business models as complimentary forms of emotion-driven innovation. This interdisciplinary study draws from the psychological sciences – theory of emotion – and the management sciences – business model literature to introduce this new innovation agenda. The term visceral hedonic rhetoric (VHR) is defined as the properties of a product, (and in this paper service and business model extensions) that persuasively induce the pursuit of pleasure at an instinctual level of cognition. This research paper lays the foundation for VHR beyond a product setting, presenting the results from an empirical study where organizations explored the possibilities for VHR in the context of their business. The results found that firms currently believe VHR is perceived in either their product and/or services they provide. Implications suggest shifting perspective surrounding the use of VHR across a firm’s business model design in order to influence the outcomes of their product and/or service design, resulting in an overall stronger emotional connection with the customer.

The study entails an examination of the factors needed for the emergence of business innovation, in the context of a developing economy, based on representative data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2021. Drawing on the theories in the literature, the impact mechanism of the entrepreneurial innovation development in our model has been assumed to involve a three-sided impact. The study builds on the entrepreneurial side effects, based on the classical Schumpeterian theory as well as incorporating the enterprises’ productive-side effects into the model, defining the model as resultant from socioeconomic macrocontext effects. The analysis of our model has been tested and analyzed using partial least squares - structural equation modeling and the necessary condition analysis. Our results show that business innovation requires not one factor, but a combination of factors. The system needs visionary entrepreneurs, who can stimulate innovation, along the concept of sustainability. An economically prosperous business with international connections which views challenges as opportunities, however, also constitutes an important factor providing proper framework for new products and services. Adequacy of the socio-economic macro-context is essential as well, as it too contributes to the development of entrepreneurship and thus to the creation of entrepreneurial innovation.

The problem of innovativeness and competitiveness of the Polish economy is rising to strategic importance in the new EU financial perspective for 2014-2020. It is strongly related to social capital. This paper contains the results of the research on the relationship between social capital and innovative companies and the existing barriers to the implementation of innovative functions by this capital in Greater Poland. The data used have come from independent studies carried out on two collectivities of managers. Each one was composed of about 150 participants. Surveyed managers have indicated medium and low ratings regarding the attributes of social capital of their own employees. These shortcomings of individual social capital have not been reduced in the expected network process of value-added relationships reflected in a higher group capital. Opinions of entrepreneurs on different forms of innovative potential of employees expressed in a five point rating scale have ranged from 3.82 to 2.47, and the average value stands at 2.97. Nevertheless, most companies have not undertaken any action to prepare and shape the pro-innovation attitude of its employees. Only a few companies have initiated or strengthened the knowledge and information management system, methods to motivate employees to submit innovative ideas or shaping the competences supporting innovative processes. In reflection on this problem we find the need to identify the causative factors that increase the potential for innovation and its efficiency by improving the level and structure of social capital in the future.
