This text presents some of the results of an empirical research aimed at career aspirations of the vice–principals of Hong Kong’s schools, considering their work duties and professional satisfaction. One of the objectives was to explore the manner in which the disparity between realistic work duties and the thoughts about ideal work contents can affect career aspirations. The reasearch was conceived as a questionnaire survey of a representative sample of secondary school vice-principals. The analysis of the obtained data shows large differences between real and ideal work involvement. Such differences are explained in detail and discussed in relation with other factors.

Badania dotyczą procesu kształtowania aspiracji zawodowych rodziców w stosunku do swoich dzieci.

The research focuses on the process of shaping the career aspirations of parents towards their children. It was assumed that career aspirations are associated with preferred by the parents of the evaluation criteria of the competition. Data were collected from 4931 parents of students in grades IV primary schools from all over the country. It was found that parents evaluate the competition in terms of their burden, satisfaction and development, and the status and prestige. Nuisance, satisfaction and development are often associated with aspirations to occupations requiring higher education and the prestige and status associated with a preference for the competition to perform with such a level is not necessary. The main factor determining these relationships is the parents’ educational level.
